NY chicken lover!!!!

Hey Y'all.
Broody question....how do I know if my Broody I serious about sitting?? Since I've moved her to her own confined area of the Shack, she only gets off the nest to eat/drink and less often beg for treats if the other girls are offered them.... Is she serious enuff to put fertile eggs beneath her, it's been a Lil over a week or should I wait?? Her belly is nekked, incase that's a factor. Thanks For Any and All Pointers( first time broody coach) Haa~
Yes. Lack of belly feathers means serious.
So yesterday I decided to put some plastic Easter eggs in a nesting box. I had one hen sit on them fir about 4 hrs then didn't go near them again. This morning I go out to collect eggs and 3/4 of the fake eggs were kicked out. 3 hens were piled on top of eachother on the one fake egg and a bunch of real ones. I pulled off two of them then reached for the eggs and I got bit, HARD! After I took the eggs I put the fake ones under her and she is sitting on them still (its been an hour) My question is, do I have a broody hen? I didn't risk checking for a bare chest as my finger is quite sore LOL. Any advise?
No. One or two days sitting on eggs while you are looking does not a broody make. If you have eggs you don't care about, stick a couple under her and take away the fake eggs. Wait 21 days. If you have chicks she was truly broody, if you just have warm eggs, she wasn't serious. (or the eggs you selected were not fertile)

I do have a couple of hens that sit on the nest for up to 4 hours before laying their egg. Once they lay it, they jump right out and go about their business. Does she sleep in that nest box?

(I haven't read the rest of the thread, so someone may have already said all this, sorry if I am repeating)

Here are a couple good ones a co worker showed me:

I made a coop out of cattle fencing & it was pretty simple to make. A lot of room for my 4 hens and easy to clean. And portable if I needed to move it.
I saw the dog/chicken house one the other one I didn't see. I don't think anything I make will be moveable and hold 11 birds well not easly moved that is. I thought of building in my lean too that is attached to my barn that is falling down but it's always wet back there and I plan on takeing the whole thing down this summer and getting a little shed for lawn mower.

Hey all just so ya'll know I have guns but if you come to my house the laser on you isn't from any of my guns. I'm training my 8 inch fluff balls of death. I figure my kids and wife can all use the hand laser. Now that your confused check out my video.

With all this negative talk of shipping experiences going on (sorry to hear about the $180 worth of birds. Ouch) I thought I would mention a very positive experience. I received an email from Murray McMurray hatchery Sunday morning at 5am saying my chicks had shipped, and at 9am received a call from the Albany postal service place that my chicks were there and they thought I might like to pick them up instead of waiting for them to get sent to my local post office

all 18 arrived healthy and are little balls of energy right now!

Not all my experiences were bad. My first order from Ideal Hatchery was fine. Chicks came Feb 25th all alive and lived. These other were from Individuals not hatcheries.

10:30 this morning this little jerk was chicken hunting. Right between the eyes.

Congrats! Nice shot!
One of our favorite TSC employees just had her entire flock wiped out (35) by a weasel. She has 1 hen and 1 roo left, but neither are doing well. So sad.
BTW, what the heck is that string hanging from its forehead???
