Pretty pony, Morgan? Can't wait for the pasture to dry up and grass to grow again.

Got 4 white eggs tonight, guess that finally answers the girl-or-boy question. I got 4 Ancona hens! Only took me a year to figure it out. That makes 12 hens, 3 Roos. And 14 chickers.

Wowzers! I work doubles for the last two days and come back to 14 pages to read. What a bunch of chatty cathys!

Okay--welcome to all the newbies.

Stony--beautiful pic of your latest kill. Thats the only way I want to see a weasel around here. Fortunately we havent seen any. Just lots of hawks.

Rancher--good luck on your job hunt.

Sunday I spring cleaned 3 coops. The two silkie coops were easy and done fairly quickly. The terrorist coop, on the other hand, took some time. First I had to chase the nosey ladies out of the coop and then close the pop door. Dh was kind enough to come out and help me. I shoveled while he wheelbarrowed it to the compost pile. Took us almost two hours. I didnt make anything squeaky clean but I will tell you it was nice having vinyl flooring as everything came up easily with a flat spade. I sprayed everything down with permethryin spray and let it dry. I refuse to have any more issues with mites after the fiasco in the fall. Put down some powder and then fresh shavings. The silkies were suspicious but the nosey terrorists had to come pounding in to see what I had done to their house. I sitll have work to do on the runs but I just threw down some powder for now.

I have not seen a tick since we got chickens. We only have an acre and I think everything that could be eaten has been eaten but they keep finding more. My neighbors are happy to have them come over on their lawn as they have been pulling ticks off their dogs and themselves. 41 chickens makes it hard for anything to survive on my real estate!!

The boys went to their forever home on saturday. The silkie chicks and rir chicks are growing quick and I put in a 60 watt bulb because they are feathering out nice. I will have to take a pic of my dh's invention to keep the dust to a minimun in the cellar, Works pretty good and all the stuff was free!!!

Hawks and falcons have been cruising around lately looking for a free meal. Olaf is pretty good about looking out for the ladies and my divas look after themselves. I have to be out with my silkies though as they wont stand a chance. I know that the birds of prey have to eat too but not at my house.

Okay---last two days are catching up fast so I will say goodnight gracie.

Good to hear, as we plan on laying a heavier grade vinyl down on the coop floor. Hubby seemed skeptical, but I am sticking to this. Happy to know it works well for you on cleaning day!

MDerby and I have traded poop for chicks. It's worth it to me cuz they bring it to me and pick up their chicks.

If you spread the poop on your garden the chickens will work it up real nice. It's funny how evenly they can spread the stuff. Much less work for me.

*grins* I have two horses of my own and access to the poop of 16 horses however it looks like there is a lot of poop available!

medium in size once they are laying a little while. More bantam size when they 1st start. They are either white or a light tan in color. Very rare is a blue egg. But that is really rare.

I may get one or two just for the broodiness. Not that I NEED more chicks right now, but I was hoping my BO was broody. I was wrong. I'd love just the experience of watching a mama at work.

jlaw, So glad your dd is doing so well! Sending healing thoughts!
