NY chicken lover!!!!

If you ever do decide to get some I almost always have hatching eggs. The problem generally is getting them to people.
I need to get my hands on an incubator first! That's going to be my next investment! I'll have to look up how far away you are from me.

What's a cochin? Do I need two? ... or several?

None of those are the options, you need hundreds!!!! Or at least I do. Actually, I cut down a lot but I would imagine by mid summer my numbers will be up there again.

Quite a distance actually. I'm near Albany but we do make trips out around Syracuse occasionally. I always could ship them though.

Well just one chick has hatched, the rest are quitters. So now I have one lonely, adorable chick in the brooder all by her self

she sounds so sad! I put a stuffed animal in with her but she don't really care. She had something wrong with one of her feet and I'm hoping it will be fine. This has been a stressful hatch! I'm not sure I want to ever incubate again!

I'm sorry, I have never hatched (yet) but I do understand. Are you keeping the rest warm? I've heard/read that sometimes they take an extra week or so to hatch? What kind of baby did you have?

The rest are definitely dead. Today is day 26. She is just a mix, not sure which breeds.

This is her..

The red light stinks but she is black and white. You can see the one foot is like curled up. Has anyone seen anything like this? Does she stand a chance?

I hope you're kidding....? There's only about 6 acres here, and honestly I can't move (it's a family thing) at this time. Though, should the zombie apocalypse come, I am taking over the pseudo-hippies next door as well as the old guy with the goose and donkey on the other side.
A-hem.
My girls all went inside by themselves again. Chickens ROCK! I love these girls. If my eggs don't go to the nest boxes I will know to check by my Beloved Husband's lawn tractor. They only every go as far as they see Their People go. And if Their People are outside, they gravitate to them. After cleaning the coop today I sat at the picnic table. They had never gone this far, though it was less than 100 feet from the coop.
I spoke to my European relatives today, and it seems that duck eggs are lovely things with which to bake.
I might need more ducks...
