NY chicken lover!!!!

mine do it all the time. I bought a 50lbs play sand bag for 6 bucks and a little thing of reptile sand for 6 bucks. I put play sand and a little bit of reptile sand in a 9x13 bake pan and they dust bath scratch and just plain peck at the sand and eat some. they fling it every where though so be ready for a mess which isn't a big deal for me since I have full side walls on my brooder I know some use a wire wall.

edit

I also added meal worms to it and let them dig for the bugs one day. only bad thing is my sand is wet so I fill the pan up 3/4 full then put in the oven for about an hour on 395 using a slotted metal spoon to stir it some at about 30 min in and then 45 min in. this of course is with out meal worms in it lol.
I do almost the same thing!

Here are some pics of the cheeps outside today, if photo Friday after all...

Here are my six on my husband's lawn tractor (their favorite hangout). Clockwise from the lower white one (about 9 o'clock) And Biscuits, Nuggets, Sesame, Kung Pao, Baby Wings, Teriyaki. Kung Pao is the one of questionable gender.

This is a closer shot of Sesame, she is an Amber Sex Link, seven weeks old and is starting to get dappled with tan-ish-grey. And Biscuits is also an Amber Sex link and she is getting the speckles as well as a creamy hue.

Afternoon all. Came home to a semi dreary day but let Little Man and his wenches out to freerange. His girls have been fiesty lately, jumping at each other and at him. Not sure why. I just yell at them to knock it off and they stop. Yesterday it was Stripe causing all the problems as she was going over and picking squabbles with Arwin and Eowyn so then Little Man comes running and he and Legolas start because they are both defending their women. Sometimes I think the girls are more problems than the guys are!

Dh gave the babies some scrambled eggs last night. They werent sure about it but did eat some. He had to give the divas grapes while they were in their run otherwise the terrorists would have had them all.. I swear I live in a three ring circus and the clowns run the show. Speaking of which, I have to go let the whiners out. They are better than dogs at knowing when I am almost home. They start in bawking before I am even parked in the driveway.

Dont remember who posted pics of their new coop in progress but it looks great. I was wondering, however, why you want to cover the ceiling? More ventilation is better. Mine dont bother with the rafters as they prefer the nice wide roosts they have.

Aria--Geri have very nice silkies and she is great to deal with. My second breeding quad is from her. I hatched out the roo and one pullet and got 2 other pullets shipped from her. I do have 4 babies in the brooder from my first breeding quad and if they dont sell, I could grow them out for you. I think they are two roos and two pullets but you know how it is sexing silkies!

My heritage rir babies are growing like weeds and look so different from my hatchery terrorists. I definately have a roo and three girls so I am hoping for good things from them. Cant wait to see how they fully feather out. One of the girls is going to be a big girl. She is bigger than the rest but loves to hang out on my. I have taken to calling her Rose because she reminds me of Rose from the Golden Girls. Can anybody name the rest of them???

Gotta run and cook some venison for the cheeps. Its been around for a while so now that its defrosted I will cook it up and let them have at it. Good way to empty the freezer!
