NY chicken lover!!!!

Glad to hear the eggs are surviving. Sorry to hear about the cold, which is always worse when pregnant.

The little brown leghorn didn't make it. It was doing ok this morning, but not great. Not a complete surprise when I came home, but still disappointing. Maybe I'll have to buy a replacement chick next weekend.

Well got up to let the dog out and then couldn't stop coughing. So here I am with some herbal tea.
Where did you get the brown leghorn? We have 7 out of shell this morning and more working on it.

Hi Everyone!

I'm in the Smithtown (Suffolk County) area of Long Island, New York and was wondering if there is anyone near me? Thanks!

Genie,

I am sure someone is near you, but try the southern NY thread. this stupid computer won't let me copy and paste. Maybe someone else can help.

Now there has been so many posts I can't keep up!! Welcome newbies!

Tab, glad to hear your eggs are progressing! So glad the hatch wasn't lost.

Will you check with your doctor? I know that you won't want to take meds on your own, but sometimes stubborn stuff, like sinus, needs an intervention and the dr. Can give you something safe. Take care.

That was one of the TSC chicks, think it got pushed around too much and just didn't recover. Anything I get now will have to be the same age group as the others I picked up. Was hoping for at least one more white egg layer out if the 2 brown leghorns I got, but maybe add a blue egg layer instead.

I'm actually feeling better than I was last weekend. My next appointment is the 30th. I was hoping to make it until then. When I get sleep I feel way better. So I plan on being a little lazy and taking a nap later.

Next week I'm on vacation and I'm sooo looking forward to it. Not having to wake up at 1:45am, hanging out with my girls, and I was thinking to start some cold hardy plants in the garden (swiss chard, radish,peas,etc.). Fiona does have another dental appointment next week and I want to stay out in Rochester and take them to the zoo.

Morning all. That was some rain we got last night. Had quite the light show as well. At least most of the chicken poop has now been washed into the soil so I didnt have to avoid land mines this morning when I went out to release the beasts. Hoping for a nice day today.

Rancher--hot sauce or hot peppers is good for their digestion and yes, during the winter its supposed to warm them up some from the inside. They dont taste it. I just like to give them some every once in a while.

Tab--glad to hear your eggs are doing ok.

Ginny--nice to see you on.

Vinegar is a natural disinfectant that you could use on wood. You could also sprinkle it with de after it was dry in case something was missed. What a great rescue of the poor hens. I am sure they will be very happy to be in your care as it sounds like they werent getting any before this.

Off to the pharm for another fun filled day. Love how people tell my pharmacist she is misinformed when she answers their questions. Why ask a professional if you already believe you know the answer and that answer is different from the professional???? Love my job!

I bought a pair of Porcelains from her this winter...I don't think she is on the NY BYC, she lives in Ohio. The hen just started laying last week...excited about chicks.

No she wouldn't be on this thread, but she is in BYC - Silkie Horsechick is her screen name. I believe she's is northwest PA, that's where my birds were shipped out of anyway. She called me from a PA phone number.
