Morning All,
Woke up to one of my Silkie chicks crowing this morning! Their grow out pen is right next to the Silkie coop and Duncan was crowing away. I guess one of them wanted to join in. Now to figure out which one it is. I have a video of Duncan crowing that I'm going to try to play later and see if he starts up again.

The one time I had a silky roo, I put a little studded dog collar on him so the other roosters wouldn't laugh as his prissy butt. I also cut the fur on the top of his head so he had a Mohawk and spiked it up a bit. I named him Fonzy.

Another busy weekend. Heading down to my in laws this afternoon. I'm going to plant their flower bed for mother's day. Tomorrow we're going to my parents. Going to visit the grandma's in between other visits.

The trick to their success was your loaning them the turner. I don't have a 'bator, which is why I was so excited to give the school eggs to hatch. But they didn't want to come in and turn on weekends so very low hatch rate. I would have been further ahead if I had sold the 8 dozen eggs as eating eggs and bought chicks or gas to go get chicks from Rancher. (all without the stressful waiting for the hatching to happen)

Well if you come this way next year, you can go to the Annual plant sale at the Trinity Church near me, buy a few plants, get chicks/chickens from me, go to the Burnett Park Zoo and see the Penguins , and then to the Destiny Mall. They've got some new resturants and bumper cars and I think Laser Tag and Some rope climbing thing for the kids. If the weather is nice we can do a cook out. It's raining today. Yuk.

Haha sometimes I find my hens louder than the roo's. I will be going to work sometimes at 5:30am and the hens are being so obnoxious that you would think they are being attacked...ugh good thing we don't have any neighbors (well neighbors that care). We only have one neighbor close to us and we just give them a dozen eggs a week and that keeps them happy. I couldn't imagine living in the city...

well I'm surrounded by neighbors but am one of the few to have a very large city backyard which kinda helps lol once my younger girls are laying I can give away eggs but right now we only get enough to feed my fast growing child son I barely get to eat an egg lol!

The Trinity Church in Fayetteville had it's annual plant sale today.  Lots of perennials cheap.  The bleeding hearts went fast, but I got some Forget me nots, and lily of the valleys and a bunch others to try out.  

They had hostas, cone flowers  and some lilac, burning bush and other shrubs too.  Plus a bake sale.  Just lots of stuff.  I buy the cheaper $1 and $2 sizes but there are bigger pots.  Stuff people divided from their yards. 

Since it's annual and there are lots of stuff it might be worth the trip for some folks.  

Dammit I'm working all day and 2moro ugh, and really wanted some cheaper priced plants def worth the trip would have fill up my truck! Ugh

I logged on to ask if anyone knows how to cut tires in half. I have a bunch on the property and I can't afford to take them all to the store and pay to have them take them. $4 - $5 each. Times twenty or so is too much.

So the plan is to cut them in half and make a path border into the woods. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Kinda like that. Paint them

white and use chicken cleanings as mulch for the pathway floor.

They weren't marked and I don't know what they are but they were so pretty. Mark you calender and I'll let you know for next year. I got all these for $19. Lily of the Valley, Woodland Hyacinth and some Vinca.

POOP ALERT ...A Nessus Sphinx Moth in the run today ..Hope you can see it

Are you an entomologist? What is the significance of that type of moth?


Thought I would share the Wild turkey encounter with the flock...

I watched a tom cross the field into our lawn and snuck out on the back porch to see what Buddy the roo would do with him. He took off like a little (compared to the turkey) airplane at the tom and boy did he lack in speed. It was so funny to watch, the turkey was running scared from this smaller bird gobbling all the way up the hill as he ran. I wish I had gotten a video of it!

Usually the wild turkeys and the flock will hang out, but I'm sure this tom was looking for a little somthin' somthin'! Tis the season.

I would say a saw use a sawzall. I googled and came up with someone doing just that after thinking it woot.

is what I came up with. Have you thought of turning them in to planters? We are going to do that this week. Wash them, dry them, prime/paint them then plant in them. it's nice cause no weeds to start out with. and its raised already. And while talking about it I just thought that you could take some screws with washers and run some hardware cloth around out side to keep rabbits and stuff out. no need for sticks to support it unless you go tall but figure a foot or two should hold fine on it's own.

You can use a razor blade to cut the inside rubber will be a littler harder but dueable. Hard part is the steal belts where the tread is for cutting. So if you do planters you can open the top of the planter up some by cutting the bead and sidewall off some.
