NY chicken lover!!!!

BLUEBERRY CRUMBLE COFFEE CAKE
Ingredients:
for the crumble topping:
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
... 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cardamom
1/4 cup butter, softened
for the cake:
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup buttermilk
3 cups fresh blueberries (or frozen, do not thaw!)

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 375ºF. Grease a 9″ square pan and set aside.

In a medium bowl, combine the first 6 ingredients, mixing together with a fork until crumbly; set aside.

In another medium bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon.

In a large bowl, cream together the remaining butter and sugar. Blend in the egg and vanilla until smooth. Blend in the flour mixture and cream alternately, beginning and ending with the flour (flour, milk, flour, milk, flour). Fold in the bluberries. (The dough is quite stiff, so be patient as you’re folding in the berries! Don’t mush them up!)

Spread the batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle with the crumble topping.

Bake for 50-60 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Cool, and cut into 9 large squares.

Rancher--here is the recipe. I only used cinnamon as thats all I had. I did make it with frozen blueberries the first time and yes it is thick. I made a blackberry one last night with frozen blackberries and it tasted good. Judging from the enormous hole my dh left in the pan, he thinks so too.

Grass is growing pretty tall with all this rain. Might have to hay it instead of mowing it. Dh let the divas and terrorists out last night and played border patrol to keep them on our property. Must have been lots of good stuff to eat because they looked like their crops were going to burst. Cooking up some eggs for the tots today. They do love scrambled eggs!

Gramma--I dont think I need to tell you to keep an eye on that scratch and keep it real clean.

Happy mothers day to all those out there who are moms by choice or circumstance. Its one of the toughest jobs you'll ever love!

looks like a hybrid domestic goose. I'd say Toulouse and maybe China mixed. Definately lots of Toulouse in it

The rules are whatever you set, it's your house! =) So if you want no animals then no animals it is. :) I've only been to two, but I know in the past the hostess has set aside a special place for crated animals for swaps/auction  (like in the garage or somewhere away from the chicken coops) and that the hostess birds were of course penned up so people didn't go traipsing around.

I don't know your layout, but if I were hosting (not a good set up for that here), I'd probably do something like that and I wouldn't let any people past my electronic netting border unless they wanted to spray up with some oxine.

fwiw, I'd love having someone  (like you) kinda local for me host - I couldn't go last year since it was so far away. :p

Hmmmm.... How do I get around the bio security issue if my birds free range the whole yard???? I can't very well enforce every person to disinfect or remove their shoes upon entering my yard??? Perhaps my arrangement isn't ideal for this type of gathering. I'm located in Ballston Spa.
Ahh well.... I read further down a couple people have something planned already.... I suppose ill dig up more details and see how far away it is from me....Feathers or anyone else locally located to me, perhaps we can plan an afternoon visit on a smaller scale.
enjoy the rest of the weekend!!

We could do that! :) Except for the one albany area meet, most of them end up about two hours from me/us and that's more than I can drive with all the stuff I have going on. So maybe we could have a smaller get together for the locals. FWIW, I have no problem disinfecting my shoes - I keep a spray bottle of oxine and ask people to use it if they go into my electric fencing area. :)

Before I had a fox and had to fence all the chooks in, I'd generally just keep them penned if necessary.

I could maybe host a small one at our "new" house in East Nassau. We are fixing it up to be a rental and there is PLENTY of room outside and a lot of parking. I wouldn't have to worry about bio security since I don't have any animals on that property. It's a fairly large flat area with a few out buildings...
