NY chicken lover!!!!

Here are some pics. The hose isn't "locked" into holes in the pool yet. Just tested this last night to see if it would even work...

The small amount of water that runs down the side of the mountain/yard:

How I got the hose to stay:

Into the pool:

For such a small trickle of water it sure does fill up fast! This is the second fill from today after I emptied it out once to move the pool.

You can see the hose in the background of this one. The water will empty out thru that and back into the woods.

My next step is getting this darn pool level! Right now it's on a huge board that was already in the woods. I dragged it out last summer and placed it in front of the stream so my son could stand on it while he's hunting for critters. I have three big rocks under the right hand side of it but it still needs to be propped up more. I'll probably get some bricks or cylinder blocks from lowes because as you can see it's still not level.
Why not just hollow out the ground and put the pool in that? Or line the hole with pool liner? What is it you're trying to accomplish? Is there a way to connect the hose to a rain barrel or barrels? Situated up higher gravity would allow the rain water to flow into the pool/pond.

This was originally going to go out in the yard, but my propert is such a hill that I thought I'd get better leverage in this spot in the woods. I could try digging the ground out and making it level that way. Sounds easier. I still want to add pavers around the side of the pool to hide it and make it look more like a real pond. I'll have to play around with it this weekend and see what I can come up with.

Afternoon all. I did manage to find a watermelon on sale and everyone got some when I got home. Had to run to the feed store and stock up for the weekend. Of course the rain only fell when I was bringing in the groceries and out filling up feed and waterers. The humidity is still high and killing me. Love my fan.

Long weekend of work coming up. Hope you all get to have some fun this weekend!

Yeah rain got me too. I'd gone to buy gas for the mower and then watered. Manage to get them all some water and only got a little wet. Why is the humidity killing you? Other than being uncomfortable..

Tried to move a BR hen but she's not cooperating, so there are three hens in one box brooding. I'm to tired to care. I'm sick of fighting these hens. If they hatch chicks fine if not that's fine too. I'm not sure what to do with the roo cuz I have no doubt he won't be kind to the chicks. Unless his sons are skinny he will be going. If I get sons.

I've got chicks to post to CL pullets and roos. EE's mostly. I've picked maybe two I want too keep and the rest can go.

Rancher---the humidity causes me to overheat easily. I have trouble keeping my body temp down when it is hot or humid. Feels like my blood is literally boiling in my veins. My dad was the same way. AC and/or a cool dip in the lake or a shower is the only way I can get it back down. Sounds like those broodies are giving you a run for your money! Good luck with them and their hatch!

I can't draw a deep breath when it is humid like this. Sometimes I get dizzy from lack of Oxygen. (of course with my white blood cell count I don't have much room for red blood cells in my veins, so O2 is always a problem with me) I hate humid weather. I love A/C.

I had an exciting night. We heard something in the woodstove this morning, figured a bird got down in but didn't have time to deal with it. The cap on the chimney blew off this winter and we don't have a ladder to put it back on. So tonight we heard it still moving around. It was above the ledge inside, so hubby and I took the stovepipe off. He reached in wearing the heavy grilling gloves and a plastic bag to pull out a...duck?!???! I got a couple pics, but can't get them loaded on the iPod. It had a long narrow beak, brown head, white underbody, dark tail. Poor thing couldn't fly when we released it from being cramped up so long. It ran down the road, occasionally sliding in the water. Eventually took a farm road off to the side and found a puddle to splash in. Hope it does ok, poor ducky.
Then during chores, I reach into the dark nest box to grab eggs, only to feel feathers. Scared the crap out of me, not expecting that, especially after the duck ordeal. Looks like Luna the blue Orp may attempt to be broody. We will wait to see how this goes.

If anyone is interested, we have a 4 week old partridge silkie in need of a good home. I know there are some folks on here who are interested in silkies and I have a BYC classified ad that I can not close in order to open a new one. The close link is not working at the moment. My daughter is cutting back on colors and not breeding partridge at the moment. Pickup preferred at 12601. Please PM if you are interested.

I would very much love to take the chick but it has to be a hen. OMG I'm just loving this chick though beautiful! I love little silkie eggs but my partridge lays medium size eggs while my white one lays small ones. But quite tasty in the end!

It's only been raining here at night or when I'm at work LOL, I can't wait till this weekend I took a few extra days off. After Saturday I don't go back to work till Thursday!!!! I love it. I'm going to try and work on expanding my coop all the pieces are there it's just a lot going on. My plants are growing it's so nice to have fresh herbs with my eggs. I can't wait for the rest of my veggies to come in. I will also be looking for more worms to add to the compost pile and putting up more of a fence around the veggies. My flowers are looking great gotta keep the chickens away from them. I'm also picking up a chicken tractor for my babies so I don't have to keep borrowing one, and I will be putting in more nest boxes for my older pullets who getting close to laying one has a red comb and waddle and another one getting red. My son thinks one is starting to crow, I hope not though because I can't stand to lose one.

Anywho I hope all is well have a great night!

My son & I went to the store ...while we were gone it started raining buckets ..
My DH chased & captured babies ..I wish I was home to see it ...
The inside of my house , the shed , the coop & of course my husband were all .. soaked ..

I hold all my baby chicks ...one might be a roo ..time will tell .
the one sumatra - skid mark -is so tame ...got to be a she ...doesnt care what you do with her ...I adore sumatras ..they have such cute faces ..

I have a chick!! LOL.. I have eggs in the bator ready to give just a few chicks out to my NINE broodies to get them off the nests but I did throw a few eggs (literally a few) under the ones that had been broody longest.. Yesterday morning saw two broodies in one nest and lo and behold they had hatched a chick even after the rotten egg disaster a few days ago. Came home last night and couldn't find the chick- seems one mama made off with it and had already moved it to a floor nest box..

Oh, and my LEGHORN is still broody!! ROFL. I guess she's going to get chicks next week when they hatch from the bator - I know they aren't supposed to go broody but she's a rebel..
