NY chicken lover!!!!

I have eggs Piping one has a little hole and you can hear them chirping through the bator am hoping to wake up in the morning to some little chicks drying off in the Incubator. Almost didn't want to go to graduation it is so interesting to sit and watch the eggs moving and seeing the little beaks poking through.

Son graduated today got 2 scholarships one is for 2 years of college the other is for one year of college which is really nice pays for half of his college. Let the ducks swim for a bit today and they loved it.

Hens are starting to lay again I am actually getting 4-5 eggs a day now out of 8 hens can't wait for the teeny bop hens to get bigger and start laying. Hubby is going to start building my rabbit hutch tomorrow and then it will be ready for my little bunnies. Gonna be another hot one tomorrow I hope everyone is staying cool.

Lapeerian Glad your pullet came back. Sorry that the one chick died Congrats on the other ones.

Pharm glad Eowyn is taking care of the babies .

Pyxis how cute they are. I candeled last night and the olive eggers and the ducks eggs from you and from tab all are going good.

Miquwid I have decided that I will get another dog but it has to be one that calls out to me, not just any old dog, I will know it when I see it.
Shoulder was doing great until I went to therapy she wanted to strengthen and she pushed it too much and something happened lost a lot of the range of motion I had and it is popping when I move it so have to have a CT Scan on Monday but may have to go back under to fix what Therapy messed up,

Tab ok I am lost what is a POL and I can’t wait to see the list you have some very nice chickens. Sucks about the thermometer but at least it is an easy fix for next time .

Lynzi I would take those chicks let me know if you are going to sell them.

Well I had family up here past few days so I have over 2 days of posts to read. Sadly I don't think I can do it I tend to speed read wich don't work on posts and i'll end up skipping posts all together doing it. In past two days I've ready 2.5 books of beautiful creatures series.

I hope everything as been going well for everyone.

Today is day 7 of my bator eggs from local farms. I desided to candle with the kids. We have 8 out of 35 eggs having veins. A few of the eggs are darker at top, a couple that are almost just lightly shaded at top so not developing at all I would say. Going to candle on day 10 and 13. Figure all should have something by then if they are going to be fertile. If looks like almost nothing in there then pitching them. Temp has been holding pretty good and humidity has been low 30's it's around 40 now but that's cause I opened the bator and let some in.

Ok so I had the roo do the dance at me it seemed. Is this fool confused or is he maybe challenging me? I know he gets up set when I make the hens leave the coop I thought he was going to attack me today when I kicked one of my bantams to make it move some. It's so weird he sleeps on floor with the light Sussex while others roost. I think I want to get rid of this light Sussex it is not the smartest bird and just don't think I want to breed it at all. I like the coloring even if it does have more black splash on back than it should have but I cant see breeding something that seems a few pistons short of an engine. think I may have to lcok this roo up till all my girls grow the LS is my oldest/biggest right now and they sleep like ducks on ground together.

I also leave the coop open ...so they can go out when they want into the enclosed run . Also our coop is all wood ...no windows ..so they need air .
I also have the back open ...covered with galvinized wire for air ..this time of year
Wow What a big egg !
has she not laid for a few days ? Older hens dont lay every day ...but their eggs are bigger ...maybe why that egg is big .
I found a thermometer / humidifer ? at Lowes ...I forgot when we were at Walmart

He was probably challenging you if you were kicking a hen ...Its a little gentler / nicer to move them with your hands.
doesnt your roo lead them out ?
Babies will roost during the day ..& sleep on the floor ...huddled at night

Nutty-it's taking me forever to decide which direction to go with my olive egger project. That will determine which birds go. I was surprised to hear that my cousin,s son got the scholarship my parents set up in my brother's name, but it does seem fitting.

I forgot to mention that POL is point of lay. Here's a list of what we're going to sell so far:

Hens: 1 straight comb BLRW, 1 BLRW, 3 buckeyes, 1 cuckoo maran, 1 blue cuckoo maran

Started Pullets: 4 EE, 1 OE, 1 frizz NN

POL Pullet: golden cuckoo maran

Roos (free): 2 EE, 1 orpington

Breela- Mine have a fenced in run, but it's not secure. It's more to keep chickens IN than anything else OUT. They are securely locked in the coop every night. It would just be too hard to secure a larger run from all predators.
