No I dont know for sure. Symptomology suggests it though. I will get some other antibiotics tomorrow. I know that chicken pox can make them more suceptable to the disease. They are also very close in symtomology except for the smell in coryza. I will continue to monitor my flocks for any further symptoms. I am hoping it is not this disease.

I hope that it isn't something so lethal....but if it is I have a bunch of chicks I need to rehome. Well, actually, I have laying hens I want to rehome so I have space for the chicks I want to keep.

I'm sure others would be willing to help you rebuild a flock if you find that you need to.

All she does in there is scratch around for food. I'm assuming she's showing the babies how to scratch for food but man, she is making a mess! I have one of the little waterers in there for them and it's clogged up with shavings in five minutes with the damage she does. So now I'm worried that is my husband is working all day and he cleans out/waters them in the morning, an hour later it'll be clogged again. It's not like I can hang it higher either cuz the chicks wont be able to reach it. I really need to remove half the amount of shavings that are in there. That may help a little but not much. I'm thinking of calling my friend and seeing if she can stop by around noon or so each day to make sure their water is clean. I wonder if would help if I put up some kind of "wall" in front of the water, and left it open on one side only (where the shavings can fly into it) if that would help. Anyone else ever have this problem??

I have this problem with the pine shavings in the (inside) waterer for the younger birds in their pen.  Right now I have their waterer on a cinder block turned on its side...it's not high enough and gets dirty so fast.  I am in the same dilemma about going away at the end of the week and hating to bother people to change the water, but they've got to have clean water, especially in this heat.  Too bad we are away at the same time; we could have traded off on chicken duty!

Wow, no kidding! You'll have to let me know what you end up doing. I removed half the shavings from the pen today. Waiting to see what it looks like in the morning.


Pharm - I am so so sorry to hear of your troubles! That is just devastating to read. I really hope you don't have to put your entire flock down. I don't even know what to say. I'm praying for you and the best outcome for your flock.

I have a Puzzle ! I hope someone can help .
Well the Teens I thought they were about 3 months but they may be older ..We have had them 4 months july 8th .
I cleaned out their cage today & found a small egg ...

And my roo is making advances on one of them .
Isnt 4 months too early to lay a egg ?
I have noticed they are checking out the nesting box ...and they will now squat .
The combs & waddles are red ...All the right signs ...
They are still all white ..could be leghorns ? They are SO SOFT...to touch .
I will see if I can get a pic tomorrow .

Pharm I am sorry about your chickens and am hoping you don't have to put down your whole flock.

I ended up with 6 baby chicks from that hatch the 3 eggs that were left were no good I cracked them open and they had black small blobs in them that didn't even come close to resembling a baby chick. Next batch in another bator are pipping and cheeping so should have some more fluffy butts soon. Tried putting some pictures all night of the fluffy butts all dried and fluffy but for some reason it is just not working.

I finally have a Broody hen my Splash Maran who hasn't been laying and I thought might have something wrong with her as she would just stay in the coop on the floor (she usually doesn't go on the roost) unless I booted her out of the coop and closed the door then it dawned on me tonight that she keeps making herself a nice little pile of wood chips and when I checked her chest is plucked so I gave her some of the other girls eggs to hatch and she settled right down on those eggs.

Have an appointment Wednesday to see what happened to the arm that was doing so well until I went to therapy and they pushed too much because they couldn't believe I wasn't in pain so now it is messed up worse than what it was before the surgery.
