NY chicken lover!!!!

LOL funny ya'll mention ants we have had some in the house this year. Well I killed one while cooking and left it there on counter. So this other ant comes up to the dead one picks it up and starts walking. I'm like hmm guess he's going to eat it back at his place. How wrong I was. It took it to the edge of counter and dropped it off the edge then went back towards the wall. I let it live after cleaning up my mess of an ant. Figured he earned his keep.

Drove over to Utica to work at the Red Cross headquarters there for today. They asked if I could be deployed there, but I have too many chickens of different ages to saddle DH with at this point. And there is Mama who has decided to be broody and started out with one egg and somehow had two eggs this morning. It's a bit of a drive, but it's putting stuff in the computer and it's AIR CONDITIONED. Pretty much ok. I guess things are still bad for some folks.

Last year I had ants in my strawberry beds. Hundreds and hundreds of them. They got all over the strawberries. This year we've had so much rain, it ruined the strawberries. I have been researching ways to keep them off the plants.
My mother had them in her bedroom this year. We found where they were coming in (around one of her windows). We sealed it after spraying something (bug spray) in there and they are gone. I know that it's never that simple.

You know how sometimes you just can't win?

So tonight DD comes home from work and asks, "Dad guess what happened at work today?"

Wanting to be the ever positive Dad I say, "You got a raise."

She gets all upset and says "Mom told you didn't she".

I say no, I just guessed. She got all upset because I ruined the surprise.

Turns out she got a promotion and a 65 cent raise. She's been there less than a year.

I always believe kids will live up to or down to our expectations. Lord knows there will be enough negative people in their lives I don't want to be one of them. Not that I never am of course but I do try.

Of course you can guess what kind of parent I had.

Anyhow I gave her a hug and told her I was proud of her. We parents have a lot more influence on our kids than the media and psych nuts tell us we do.

Hugs all around,

Rancher

The turkey "pen" in the garage is now more of a suggestion, as they escape with ease. We have more turkeys wandering around in the garage than we do in the pen half the time. Good thing there's nothing out there they can get sick from or can really trash. I walk out there and have a fan club - they come running to me. Here are two of the Bronzes (there are both Bronzes and Black-Winged Bronzes, and I can't tell yet). The one on the left appears to be a jenny, and the one on the right a jake - he's losing his neck feathers, has a bigger starter-snood going on, and is a big guy. They're friendly as can be - these two were trying to follow me into the house!

Aww, so cute Hen. You inspired me and I just hatched out 4 sweetgrass poults from eggs I got at a swap. Suspect one might be a bronze because it is colored differently. Might order from Porter's next year to expand the flock.
