I've got four eggs under a broody hen that I think are Buckwheats.It will be a while before I'm really sure, what these two chicks are. I do have two others that I've not paid much attention too that I believe to be Buckwheats too, but without the frizzle.![]()

This tree is about 30 years old. It has been on the property since my Fiancee's grandfather bought it from the railroad and converted the area to residential. He also planted a pear tree that I can't ID. :-/ Well in about a month I'll be selling apples. The seeds show that the fruit is not ripe yet.Interestingly enough apple trees are grafted in order to reproduce the same apple variety. I bought "The Apple Lovers Cook book and learned a lot.
Do you know that the seed in your apple and planted it , it would produce a completely new variety. The genetics in apples is amazing. In fact each seed would produce a new variety.
Many we have today are only because they're marketable. Cornell is coming out with two new varieties.
In 1905 the USDA cataloged all the known Apple Varieties and came up with 14,000.
I would love to find , Black Oxford, Ambrosia, Arkansas Black, Cox's Orange Pippin, Pink Pearl and many others. Some do well in the south or the north west , while others only do good in the cold north east.
Rhode Island Greening, Ribston Pippin, Roxburry Russet, Sierra Beauty, Winter Banana, Westfield Seek no Further, and the Zabergau Reinette.

Is it possible to be getting bit by something in the coop and the chickens not being affected at all? I am getting bites, similar to flea bites and I think we've narrowed it down to the coop. I have checked the chickens after dark with a flashlight. Nothing. Total coop cleanout, sprayed neem and put down poultry dust. Our dog does not have fleas and no one else in the family is getting bit... which leads me to the coop since I'm pretty much the only person that goes in there.
