NY chicken lover!!!!

Derpy did not survive the night. Last night I had some trouble getting it to eat, but I figured that it had eaten from the crumble bowl. I had seen it eating from the bowl several times yesterday and it had been doing good. :-/ I knew it was a gamble when I decided to intervene. As for the other seven, Pearl took the three Barred Rock chicks very well. How many chicks do you think that a very small Bantam Silkie could keep warm in the weather we are having? Is three a good number? I have four more chicks but I'm scared that it'll be too much for her.
Sosorry for your loss. I would only give pearl the three chicks. She will have her wings full and they grow so fast. If they were sikie chicks she could handle a couple more. She looks very happy with her new babies! I have two broody sikies sitting on eggs now. Last time hatching this year.

Thanks for the reply. I had given her a few of her own eggs to hatch, but her eggs are often porous and none survived the first week of development. She stayed right on broody though which is why I wanted to give her chicks. Poor girl was getting kicked off the nest on a daily basis at one point.

Miquwid - I'm hoping to get some more chicks from the two as well, my little chick is starting get some feathers in and I'm loving the color of them.

Beak and Skiff and just minutes down the road from me! I've been wanting to go to their newest building now that they have stuff for kids to do.

I went to ONeils today too! Around 4:30 I felt the need to get some apples to make a pie. Didn't pick, was wishing I could get a few separate apples of the other types, cause I like the flavor of a mix of apples. The cashier asked if I wanted a bag of mixed apples with some of all three types! I was so happy. Usually they have raspberries for a while in September, until frost. I wonder what is different this year.

Does Beak and Skiff still have the ponies?

The new building has wine and vodka tasting, and a cafe with prices that are not too bad. Apples prices are ridiculous when you can get them cheaper at Wegmans.

They still have pony rides. $5.

I picked a mix of apples at O'neils for sauce. But I had to go to Wemans for Granny Smiths to add to my sauce too.

I don't care for the fact that Beak n' Skiff only has one type of apple to pick. They had some Wealthy for sale in the store but at $1.20 a pound I wasn't buying.

80 cents at O'Neils or 99 cents at Wegmans. I think Beak n' Skiff is going to be a Wine and Vodka place and then I will no longer go there.

On the chicken front. Looks like my BR roo is on the way out. To be honest he hasn't looked good in a while, always laying down. I dusted, wormed and rubbed vaseline on his legs since he doesn't roost. Chickens sleeping on the floor or in nest boxes are more prone to mites, though I've not seen any, I figure it can't hurt. He just has no weight. I hand fed him some bits of bread this am. I do have probiotics in the water.

I am concerned that the hen I think is broody may not be. There is a hen that would lay on the floor at night with the rooster and perhaps it's her. I will dust her tonight. Everyone got wormed last night.

There are no signs of illness. No coughing or sneezing, so I have no idea what the problem is. Perhaps it is stress. The roo was being beaten up by the BM roo, which is why I've been keeping them in the run.

It seems one of the EE pullets is NOT a pullet. I heard crowing coming from the EE coop and knowing or thinking there was no longer a roo in there I was surprised to hear it. He's a nice boy and up for grabs, decent looking too.

Would anyone be interested in my CR's. Four hens and the roo? These are my biggest birds and good dual purpose.

Brella, well I'm glad pearl has some babies to brood. So for the lil one.

Rancher, I wish you all the best with your BR roo.
