NY chicken lover!!!!

Anyone interested or know someone who'd be interested in re homing my 4month old Splash(?)Silkie Roo??
He's not mean, he's very generous to the girls but he hasn't established his own little grouping so he hops on to the girls at the same time the dominant Roo is mounting. The girls are getting double teamed and have bald spots due to them being pulled in two directions..
I hate to get rid of him, he's so cute and funny...but my girls are looking a bit worn out and winter is coming so they'll need all the feathers they've got left...ha
Any help would be greatly appreciated, free to a good home/pot!?!?

Just a thought I've been chewing on for a while that perhaps you could advise me on. The Fair. I am very disappointed, irked etc that the poultry exhibit is so horrible. I would like to contact the director of the fair to complain and request that they make changes so that the birds brought for exhibit are healthy, in good plumage, their quarters are clean, and spacious enough that excessive pecking doesn't happen, and if it does, the owner deals with it. (I saw one being pecked bloody a couple of yars ago.and people said there was a dead bird this year, I saw several very sick looking birds, maybe some with mites...) it also seemed like a couple of people brought huge numbers of birds, not just their best.

I hear people say that other shows are clean and show good quality healthy birds. I want that for the Fair. What they have is not good for the birds and gives a bad impression of chickens dirty, smelly, disgusting. It can't be good for people to see poorly kept birds.

How should I proceed? I haven't gone to other shows...perhaps I should for research. Can't bring money.

I just had the paperwork for entering at the Fair. I had gone to the office and talked with the guy, Jerry Reese I think his name is. Of course now I can't find it.

I had considered writing to the newspaper or at the time of the fair calling the SPCA. I suppose you might find it on line at the NYS Fair web site.

I have a hen & a rooster moulting right now ...

I have several moulting birds at the moment, including Wee Man. He looks like crap, as he's missing most of his ruff and his saddle feathers, and his sickle feathers are only half-grown. The good thing is that the hens who are still missing back feathers from when I had big roosters are also moulting, and so their backs are finally growing in.

They are related. Fishers are one of my favorite animals at the zoo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fisher_(animal) When I used to do educational tours at the zoo I learned that they are local, sightings have been coming farther and farther south every year.
My best friend in CT has one of these in her backyard every morning. Must have made its home nearby. She doesn't have any pets so there's no concern.

I'm getting rid of my 5 month old Egyptian fayoumi rooster. I also have a 3 month old welsummer roo that I would be willing to part with, and a year old golden sebright roo. I have too many roosters...ugh free to anyone on here.

What town are you located in? I know it's a drive for me but I would love the sebright and have use for the Welsummer. I can't seem to keep sebrights alive. Keep trying though as they're my daughters.

Are you talking about the state fair? I went and was surprised. Our fairs (Niagara and Erie county) are so clean an only have fat healthy birds. There are much fewer but were tiny counties. I ended up buying a pair of sebrights and 3 owl pigeons. The sebright hen died within a week (I have one hen so only needed the roo but the hen would have helped.) the roo is still being cinfined. The pigeons are as well but they seem fine. I gave the roo an extra mixed bantam hen so he's not alone. He doesn't show any signs of being sick so I can hope he'll live. The hen was just tiny and not an adult yet as well as the fact that she was missing all her back feathers. I had her seperate from the roo cause I think he was beating her. Poor baby.

I agree the Erie county fair always has nice, healthy looking birds. I have never seen a sick bird there in the 20+ years I have attended. It was a shock to see the birds at the State fair. I didnt go this year but last year there were a lot of sick birds also. Pasty butts, sneezing, missing feathers, etc. I would never show a bird there unless they could prove that they wont let sick birds in.

Lynzi it looks awesome. I was wondering how it turned out. I remember your pictures from the spring when you were trying to get the water to flow in & out. It seems your ducks are very happy with it as well
