NY chicken lover!!!!

Well my tall grasses were getting out of control on the sides of my porch steps, finally dug them out and split them. What a pain in the neck that was! Finally got it done and split up half of the bunch and placed them around the back of my pond. Hoping next spring they come in and fill up the back "wall" of the pond.

You can insulate, but make sure there is ventilation, which actually negates the whole idea of insulating.

This is exactly what my architect hubby kept trying to drill into my head when we were planning our coop and I (initially) wanted to insulate.

After doing some research and talking to people on BYC, I came to the conclusion that risk of illness over inadequate ventilation topped the threat of my chickens getting too cold. So I opted to skip insulation, although my husband did ram some around the window frames to help keep drafts down. Other than that, we have a board and batten coop and there are some areas that we will have to finish (trim out) before the weather really turns to help keep out drafts.

I have a granddaughter who is 3 months old. my daughter used a name she liked and 2 family names in honor of those people--Miranda (she liked) Margaret(my moms name)Marie(her mother in laws middle name and my step moms middle name)--hence Miranda Margaret-Marie...

My name is Margaret Marie (named for my grandmother and an aunt)!

Here's a pic of Gru hanging out by the rabbit cages again this afternoon. He was with the girls all morning but it seems he likes to rest here in the afternoon. Could it be because this is where the ducks are resting in the afternoon?

Anyone know of someone in the CNY region who will process a few birds at a time for a fee? I have a handful of older girls I inherited who haven't laid an egg since they've been with me (7 months). I REALLY don't want to do it myself unless I absolutely have to.
