NY chicken lover!!!!

Ok thanks guys....I just found it odd. I'm going to try to check out tomorrow just to be sure there aren't any gross buggies on her and that it IS just a molt.

Maybe she'll give mine a call tonight and tell her to get on the ball! Still waiting for her to lay :(  Would have been nice to get some duck eggs, especially since everyone has stopped laying around here. AGAIN. Owell, at this point I just figure it's winter and they're done for the season.

I think there may be something wrong with my BO hen. She is dropping feathers like no other, doesn't seem bare in any spots but I thought she already went thru a molt at the end of summer. I'm finding her feathers all over the place, to the point where I go outside and get scared because I think a hawk scooped her up so I go looking for her. What is her deal?!?

I wouldn't worry too much. She may have had a false start the first time and this is the real deal.

they are roosted for the night go in the coop and look underneath her feathers. You will see the new ones coming in if she is molting. 7 out of 8 of my girls are molting. Its cool to watch the new feathers grow in. And my coop looks like a pillow exploded and in their run area it looks like someone left a trail of feather :) I up their meat protein to help encourage an easier molt so the feathers grow back in quicker. They sure pick a goofy time to molt. We have had freezing temps lol

Ummm it's PITCH black here at night, I never go out there in the dark! Lol I'm too scared. Even though we apparently have no predators coming into the yard, I'm still a baby and will not go out there. If I ever forget to lock them up and it's pitch dark out there, I sends husband out there with a flashlight to do it. But I will check her tomorrow and see if she has many new feathers coming in that explain the feathers dropping off her. ;-)

That's why I let my dogs out when I go and have a spotlight with me lol tho it's not pitch black here :). But yes you can see them during the day as well. My girls aren't to keen on me catching them when they are awake lol

Ours are starting to come out of it finally. The WCB Polish is getting her tail and crest back and I've seen the EE in the nest box, hopefully she starts laying soon. I'm definitely not seeing as many feathers.

My one girl went broody in July for week and a half and then started moulting and is just finally starting to regrow her feathers back in. Out of 7 laying hens only 1 is laying......I went from 21 eggs a week to 7 a week last week. This is not paying their feed bill lol
I hope the others don't take so long to molt

At least you're getting AN egg a day! Lol try having 6 hens, 3 ducks (one of which should be laying by now) and no eggs whatsoever! Before ya know it I'm gonna be going out there saying "show me the eggs!"
