NY chicken lover!!!!

Lynzi - so sorry about that ....that is something I wouldn't have thought about - figuring they keep a good eye out for things above and would rush off - the poor hen must have been going for a buggie.

My hoop coop did fine the back of the tarp was flapping and making the loudest noise ! But all stayed in place. :)

My dad brought over his pumpkins yesterday and each pen got some.  My cheeps have decided to not want to come back to roost at night so we're going to keep them locked in for a while to see if it will kick the behavior.  Heading out to Toby Keith Bar and Grill in syracuse for my MIL's birthday later today.

Have a good time.

I feel stupid and I must not be using the right phrasing to google this. If I wanted to breed my own cornish crosses for meat how do I do that? do I need specific hens and roos or do I just need any cornish and any other breed? can anyone suggest any good links for me to research this? Some people at work expressed interest in buying meat birds from me because they love my eggs so much so it's something I want to research more.

From what I read the x-rocks you buy from a hatcheries aint just two different breeds they are like 4-5 generations of different birds between like 4 different breeds. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/184354/breeding-cornish-x-rocks post 12 starts talking about different things they do. There is a post on the front page where someone talks about doing they're own but takes a few weeks longer than hatchery meaties.

I googled "can i breed my own x-rocks" to come up with that and other links.

Good morning.
I knew Zeke was going to have to give in eventually.

Looks like it's going to be a nice day, so there's things to be done today. Enjoy the sun if you have it.

Maybe I'm missing something, what does a Cornish bring to the gene pool? Why wouldn't any heavily bodied meat bird do for one of the parents?

Hoop coop is still standing. Didn't move at all. The only damage was the wind spinner I had attached to the roof of the coop. Blew off all the spinners except one

I don't know about the heavy snow. It didn't get put up till March and we were pretty much down with snow by then. But I am thinking with the shape of the hoop coop it should just fall off the sides like the rain does.

And I have knelt on the top and it didn't collapse so chances are it should hold up well with the snow

Poor George he was well behaved when he was here but if course I don't think he realized he was a boy yet

I wish I could have a rooster with the hawks around. Girls are getting better at keeping an eye to the sky but they are more interested in eating.

And you best stop for a visit when you are here....you wont believe how big the tots got

I am not quite sure where you hoops are but mine have survived wind and snow very well.
