NY chicken lover!!!!

I did. Turns out they were from Dundee, NY less than an hour away from me. I asked and drove up to get them. Doubt that I was any help answering your question. lol

I did notice some from NY. Delaware Giants. Never heard of Delaware Giants so I wouldn't bid on them. Sometimes folks are ignorant of what's what.

I'm seeing lots of foot prints out back, like I've never seen before. Snooping around the coop. I do know a neighbor has a dog and another has dogs. They seem to be coming from that direction. Not directly from the woods themselves.

I will be making some trips out there in the evening to see what's what. Not big prints but bigger than a house cat. Could be a fox, but I hope not. I'll have to devise a plan to deal with it.

the dog bowls have a thermostat too so they only go on when it it 30 degrees also .
My coop is a Coop / Run  . So they have the run of the space . they Roost on one side .
so their food

You read my mind! :) Was just about to post the same thing - a lot of the dog bowls will turn off when it's above freezing, no need for the extra device.

Huh I never knew that!! And I isn't remember reading that on the box they came in. Good to know. Thanks :)

Morning All,
Ducks were in their coop overnight so I woke up to a nice egg resting in the clean wood shavings instead of frozen and in the snow!

And THAT'S how I imagined finding my first duck egg! LOL I'm going to have to check out whats available on ebay for hatching eggs. The batch I got from ke didn't do well at all. I'm not sure what happened. No spider veins, just ones that looked like blood rings.

Is that an issue that comes about from incubation methods? I didn't do anything different from the way I've hatched before. Kept the temp at 100-102, and the humidity at 45%. I'd actually like to give a go at hatching some duck eggs. I'd rather have a duckling around than a chick right now. Someone posted a video to wall a while back with this duckling following the human around. I loved it. I miss having ducklings.

And all grown up:

Love the duckers!

I've bid on some BR eggs since I can't find any from Kathyinmo. We shall see. I also saw some SLW's but not really wanting to get into those.

I expect to get some CR's soon.

I've got two BR mutts you can have :p They should start crowing any day now! *sigh* I really need to do them in, but I really want them to put on some more weight.

My coop is surrounded by footprints... The dogs! Squirrels have been trying to get into the coop and the dogs are trying so hard to eat the squirrels.

Broke down

I got a pair of those cheapies at TSC.  Didn't last the season.  They got a cut in them somehow.  What a waste of money.  I need something that is super tough.

To many branches and sticks falling here.  Unseen in the snow and it's right through the side.

I also need something long to keep my pj's dry in the morning.  If snow gets in the boot ugh!

The muck boots have great reviews and are suppose to be good from sub zero to 85 degrees.  I did some research before getting them & tried a pair on at TSC to make sure I got the right size. I dont mind paying more for a good boot thats going to last a long time.  They do come in different heights. I am short so these come up to almost my knee lol
I have two pairs of muck boots I have had for years. One pair like shoes just slip on and one taller. THEY ARE PRICELESS. Have had them for years. They last foever.
Regards, Aria

Morning all. Got our first snowfall last night. Only about half an inch or so. Still flurrying. I heard all about it as soon as I stepped out the back door this morning. The terrorists were yelling at me about the evil white stuff. I opened the pop door and they all looked at me like "you're kidding, right? You expect us to go out in that?" I made chickendaddy go in and fill their food and inside waterer. They continued their tirade on him. Now my silkies had no problem running out this morning. They were happy to be outside and dont mind the snow. And its not because they are aliens, rancher. Anyways, it wasnt bad but the roads must be somewhat slick as several schools were closed. We are supposed to get more crap tonight but not sure if its rain or snow. This all happened because I made an apt to get my snow tires on tomorrow morning.

Stony--I have yet to stump you for a song!

Rancher--I have hatched a couple times from ebay eggs. Only got 4 out of a dozen. I have sent eggs to pyxis with mixed results. The post office and changing temps do affect hatchability.

Lynzi--congrats on the egg in the coop. How goes your war on mites?

Forgot to mention I saw footprints this am around the silkie coops. Little birdy footprints and rabbit prints. I see a rabbit dinner in my future. Hopefully this snow will help dh figure out where brown is hiding so he can take one down. I want venison real bad.

Off to work for another day of peoples holiday jeers and sneers. Gotta love that spirit!
