NY chicken lover!!!!

Well now you need to get a brooder set up.  I really hate chicks that don't begin to lay until late in the summer.  I've got a BM pullet that is not yet laying.

I do too but I hate the risk I take in getting any more Roos. I can't have another with Gru around...maybe I'll take a trio from you or a pair and get rid of the extras in spring time. What will these EE's look like?

It looks like there may not be any, though I do have good luck with them and they are my control group for the hatch. I do have about four Del eggs to set but may get an EE or two.

Here's a pic of the young BM pullet you can see quite a bit of white on her. Which is a good thing. I don't think she's laying yet and that's a bummer. I don't think she'll start til spring. It's a pain because the whole coop is still on 20% grower. Next year this place will be crawling with BM chicks If I can help it.

Aria ~ Did you figure out the photo upload? I saw your post but everyone responded the same as what I would have told you. When I am on my PC, there are two "bars" of options above the posting box. In the second row, 1st icon, there is a little frame with a mountain and moon/sun in it. Click on that. When you click on that a little box will pop up stating "Embed an image", click on Upload File. This will take you to your photo library like other's have stated and thats where you pick the photo and click sumbit. I wish this website would allow screen shots, it would make it much easier.

Wah! Found a dead california white hen today. My only birds that are still laying like champs. Grr! Wasn't scrawny, no bugs, no sign of predation, big red comb, laid an egg every day this week. It's just not right I tell ya. :(

Would love to hatch something this spring, but haven't thought of what I want just yet.. Hmm.

Well, after a long week of trying to catch a weasel I finally got him! But, throughout that week he cleaned my numbers down a lot to the point where I only have a few of each color of my birds for breeding this spring. I'm down to 4 chicks and I had around 20 growing out as well as losing a large number of extra cockerels and breeder hens. These are my last 4 chicks-

What is a California White. I don't think I've ever seen one.

glad you got the weasel. The only good weasel is a dead weasel. I have not seen one around here in 8 months. So I am hoping

between my cat and I we have killed them all.

I had one back in March. It seems where I live is just a travel route for all animals. We have deer on our lawn all he time and you can constantly see foxes and other animals going through along the wood line.

about 45 to 50 yards behind our house and down a hill is a natural corridor like that. I've killed deer there using the duck coop as a rifle rest

. It is where I have killed quite a few criiters as well including a gray fox a few months ago. This area on our property is an old fence line when the property was a few hundred acre farm. The critters all travel along the hedgerow apple tree line.
