NY chicken lover!!!!

The scale the wall of the coop and crawl threw the air space between the rafters. And I used a box trap on this one with chickens he already killed as bait. I cut open the chickens and laid there livers on top of their bodies. Weasels love liver.

I had a coon get in that way. Lord have mercy why didn't you block it with hardware cloth like I did ? Something gets in my coop it's only going to be once. I'll do what I have to to block it's way.

The box trap I saw said to hang it on a tree. It uses a rat trap. I've nailed rat traps to a tree to catch squirrels getting in my coop stealing eggs.

Evening all. Got a paltry 4 eggs today from 19 hens. Bunch of slackers are messing with my egg customers. I need these girls to lay eggs!

Stony and County---nice to see you boys have been busy keeping the critter count down. I hope, county, you get that fisher cause it will clean you out! Your houses must be where all the predators from around here are going!

Rancher--I will be ordering eggs myself from fred around the same time you are. Hope he doesnt mix up our order.

Sorry to hear of your aunts passing. My condolences to you and yours.

Have a good evening all.

I'll just be ordering some BR eggs. If I were to get RIR's they'd be rosecomb. But I have to stick with the breeds I've got and work with them.

Because it is only used as a coop temporarily. The other time of the year it is a pig barn. But, now that you mention it I don't know why I never did block those off. I have n every other coop but the one. Another project for this weekend. I'll have to check out the box trap. Sounds like a neat idea. We have tried at traps on weasels multiple times but they just get set off and never caught them.

If you want some of my KC eggs in the spring I'd be more than happy to give you some of mine.

I was thinking of getting some Ancona eggs from a seller on ebay. I'd like to get some experience hatching ducks eggs before trying to my own KCs or Runners in the Spring and getting disappointed with low hatch rates. The ducks could stay inside until big enough to be put in the shed with a heat lamp I have in there and then eventually moved in with the other duckers.

I don't have their coop build yet. I do have the materials just haven't built it. Plus I plan to dig a shallow pond and I need to fence it in. I won't get them without having things ready.

Funny I just noticed the ad at the top for traps. I don't buy something if I can build it myself.

Can you rent incubators? The kids and I have talked about hatching out some chicks in the spring, but if I don't have a broody, we will have to incubate them. I don't want to do it that often maybe just this one time. I don't want to make the investment in buying one or building one if I'm only going to use it one or two times. Maybe I'll have to see is someone will do it for us, but that takes all the fun out of actually watching them hatch out here at home.

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. Everyone had a great time here. Went to my moms this year. It was nice to take a break for this year. I convinced Mom that she should give me the bones for the chickens instead of making soup this year. The chickens thanks her.

Chickens enjoying their Thanksgiving!

Dogs enjoyed some with their dinner too!

Luv, you can rent incubators though it might be fun to build one with the kids.

Rancher what kind of duck coop are you building? I'm going with a hoop coop myself maybe not as big though I only want a few ducks. And then make a hoop shed.

Lynzi you can join the hatch along!!

I might get some muscovy eggs and try hatching them but we will see.

Well, after a long week of trying to catch a weasel I finally got him! But, throughout that week he cleaned my numbers down a lot to the point where I only have a few of each color of my birds for breeding this spring. I'm down to 4 chicks and I had around 20 growing out as well as losing a large number of extra cockerels and breeder hens. These are my last 4 chicks-
So Sorry ! Hate Predators ! we have a hawk now that check us out almost every day ..
Do Dogs go after Weasels ?

Rancher - the eggs you bought off Ebay, you said you went to the post office to pick them up? They didn't get delivered to your house? I'm thinking about buying some duck eggs but want to know how the shipping works, will they ship directly to my house?

It s better if you pick them up ..Less travel / jiggling ...If you have them delivered ..You risk having them left at your house with no heat .
Depends on your mailman .
