NY chicken lover!!!!

It takes them some time but they get used to it. I also use a 2X3 but they will use the 2x4.

I have the lower roosting pole 2 x 4 set with the thinner side up, only because this is the "hop up" bar. No one roosts on it -- they all prefer the higher 2 x4 turned flat-side up. The younger birds only have a very fat, round branch stuck in their kennel-cage to roost on, but it has to do for now... When / if they join the biggies flock, I'll flip the lower roosting pole to flat-side up, too. I think it's the best way to go, especially in winter, and I read it's kinder on their feet.

You must buy some cheap light to string around the yard if you can. They look so nice when you go out to close up the chickens.

Buy yourself one of these and you can turn them off in the morning.

You plug in your lights into it and then when you want you can switch it off.

That's neat. I've not seen one like this with the switch right on it. Where do you find them? Thx.

If you were closer you could borrow mine, I rarely use it. It's a lot of fun though and as much as I love having a broody do it, and how easy it is, it's always really fun to watch them hatch and actually take part in it.

So Sorry ! Hate Predators ! we have a hawk now that check us out almost every day ..
Do Dogs go after Weasels ?

Countyboy - I'm sorry about the weasel taking such a hit on your birds. Hopefully, you got the one and only that was using your set-up as a KFC drive-thru.

Gramma - My pit-retriever mix is a big lovey-dovey to people and other dogs. But woe on anything small and furry and wild. He has dispatched woodchucks, chipmunks and other critters that venture too close with their guard down. This past summer, he killed a weasel at our lake cottage. I don't like that he does this, but it's something that I can't control if the wild animals are in our yard and he happens to be outside. But to answer your question about dogs and weasels: YES..... in my experience.

Featherz - I'm sad to hear about your hen's mysterious death. These things always stick in my mind when I first open the coop up in the morning and things seem too quiet. I know it's a given that it will happen sooner or later. Hopefully, none of your other birds have any problems.

Luvmychicks - LUV YOUR PICS!!!
