NY chicken lover!!!!

Enjoy this brief warm-up, everyone -- I hear it's supposed to get pretty cold again by the weekend.

I let the big girls free range for a little bit this past week. I knew they wouldn't go too far (as you can see)! They do NOT approve of the "white stuff."

(Lynzi, the black Maran, "Helen", is a hen I got from Rancher as a young pullet. Were you saying you were interested in getting a couple from him? I can't remember. Anyway, she is just the best bird. I love her. Lots of personality, curious and chatty but respectful... and a good, fair boss lady. She has some copper streaks, so she wouldn't win any breed awards, but I don't give a Christmas figgy about that kind of stuff. We think she's gorgeous!)

Check out Helen's hairy legs...! Wouldn't it be nice not to care and give up the razor, ladies? haha!

Yes, I have a great pyr mix and a border collie mix and they will both kill any small animal that crosses their path. Sweetest dogs ever but they will take down any predator in a heartbeat. They haven't actually killed a weasel yet like TOB's but I'm sure they would if given the chance.

Houseofknass - sorry to hear about your aunt, your in our thoughts and prayers.

Feathers- so sorry to hear about your hen.

Day 20 on incubation and one is starting an external pip. I though I was hearing chirping early morning but wasn't sure but I am now so very excited. On the big girls they are actually outside and not just my Roo they are creating some time of mud situation out there, but oh well I'm just super happy to see them outside. I know it's their choice whether or not to go out but I just couldn't imagine them cooped up all winter.

RANCHER CAN YOU TELL ME HOW TO INSERT PHOTO? ARIA

Do you see the little icon in the strip with the smiley face?  The one that has the mountain and moon ?  Click on that.  Then follow the instructions.   Click on up load files.  That should open up your " picture library"  you have loaded on your computer.  Click on the chosen pic.

Rancher - I would love some EE chicks - but I have no set up for a brooder .... :(   You hadda pick the coldest time of the year !    :tongue

Well now you need to get a brooder set up.  I really hate chicks that don't begin to lay until late in the summer.  I've got a BM pullet that is not yet laying.
RANCHER...WHERE IS THE LITTLE ICON ? WHERE IS THE ORIGINAL SPOT FOR ME

I'm getting the hatching itch, I think I'm just bored and want a little duckling to play with. Was thinking of ordering some eggs on eBay. I've never tried hatching duck eggs tho, that's probably be an epic fail for me. I can't even get chick eggs to hatch lol

I've already started setting duck eggs aside. I'll try whatever I have by Saturday.
I was devastated yesterday. Broom Hilda has been taking care of the chicks. I went to check on them yesterday and 2 were dead. It killed me.

Oh no! That's awful! Were those the only 2 that had hatched or did you have more? I can't remember now...so sorry.

Aria when you are in the reply box, typing up your post, there is a little square icon (many in fact) and one of them has the "picture" of a mountain and a moon in it. That is the icon you want to click on. You can do it after your done typing your message before hitting "reply" at the bottom.
