NY chicken lover!!!!

Speaking of incubators one of the reasons why i made my is beacuse its heavy and wont rattle as my son and dogs run through our old house. Figure all the josling could bother the eggs even though i put it in a quiet room. Well im not thrilled about this but i might have to order muscovy eggs to hatch. Nervous about this its a lot of money to invest but only a few hatch it will be worth it. Have a good day .

Funny pick gramma

Glass, How many hens do you have? We have ten and no eggs this week.
I has been cold.

Ski...that sound good. My husband was on the National Ski Patrol and we did a lot of it.
We quit last year. We do miss it. And he did Not want to do cross country. Aria

Aria, I have 15 hens. The youngest are probably old enough now...yesterday I did wind up with two, but had to close them up early. The snow was great. Where did your DH patrol?

I paid $20 for 4 eggs. Put them under a chicken who had proved her mothering skills. 3 of the 4 hatched. So I got 3 ducks for $20. Not a bad price, really. See if you can find some local so you don't have to pay shipping. I put a sign up in my local feed store. Someone called me a couple weeks later with eggs. I didn't want a dozen, nor did I have the money to pay for a dozen. Some breeds of ducks only lay in the spring, so be prepared to wait on a response to any sign you post.

I think my next hen to go broody I'll leave alone and let her sit on some eggs. Hopefully by that time I'll have some duck eggs. My KC gave me 3-4 and that was it. Think she's done until Spring. Nothing more coming from the silkies. The Orps are on a roll though which is good. At least we eggs in the house again. I get three a day from those two and the BR.

I hope you don't mind my asking but .

1. where is the incubator placed in the house?

2. what is the temp of the room?

3. do you have turner?

Lots of folks have a hard time with the still LG still air incubators.  That's why I didn't want one.  Even this Genesis isn't perfect.  I think the new one would be nice, but can't say.  I've had to adjust this one twice since I've had it to bring the temp up.  Also I have a new motor and fan set up since this one started acting funny, but haven't switched it out.  The hatches have been okay but not great.  That's why I load it up and hope for a 50% hatch rate.

Fertility rates are iffy things I think when you're dealing with show lines.  We don't like the randy young roosters but they seem to be the ones who get the job done.  I've a new Del rooster and he's a wienie compared to his dad.

Too I need to bring in some new blood otherwise everyone is related.  Which is why I ordered BR eggs and will most likely order more. Plus some Dels.  It's also why I traded my amer roo for an Aruacana.   I've got a nice dark blue EE/amer roo but he's related to all the girls except my two oldest and I'm not sure they'll be laying come spring.

They're upstairs in my old office. I actually closed the heat vent to that room because I believe that's what was screwing up my humidity before I started the hatch. The room stays between 60-67 degrees. I do not have a turner, turn them myself three times a day. I'm done with that LG. Haven't been too successful with it.

:sick        I feel my lunch coming back up.  You really should warn a person you know.    :plbb         Where do you put the batteries in that thing?     :lau

IDK but I'm about to pull them since they don't seem to working properly. ;)  Seriously though, Why would a fertile egg not develop at all in an incubator? When I started this hatch I had 4 silkie eggs in there that were fertile. Nothing happened with them so I chucked them. I recently placed two more in there after setting the next 3 aside. Checked one of the three and it was fertile. Today is day 4 these eggs have been in the bator and not a single vein! So I am literally down to 1 single Orp egg in the bator. I will be shocked if it hatches. And if it does hatch, at least I have those EEs to place it with. I'm giving up on the hatching for a little while. Although I'm going to want to test out my Brinsea when I get it for Christmas so if the Silkie isnt laying any more by then I'll try some Orp eggs.
Lindsay, It is trial and error and then success. DON'T GIVE UP. My husband
had an incubator when we had Call Ducks and he had no success, then some hatched,
and then no problems. You need to keep trying. YES. It is so much fun and satisfaction
when you have a successful hatch. It's worth the efforts. Fond regards, Aria

My husband was on the national ski patrol and he worked in Speculator, Parkway, Turin,
and most of ski areas in Vermont....wherever we went. One of our trips, where he DID NOT
was in Aspen. That was a trip. Did not like the HIGH mountains and the lifts with no front
bar. EEK.

My husband became an expert and I remained intermediate. We were in many Ski Clubs and
these times were the BEST. Very super memories. Regards, Aria
