I have another that is gray but feathers coming in are black. It's sooo exciting watching them change...lol. Most of the eggs I have bought are assortments of purebred so you never know. Please let me know if the tips for shipping eggs work as I have given up on shipped eggs. I lose so many. ;(

I placed an order that will arrive next week. This will be my first time ever ordering hatching eggs that had to be shipped. I'll let you know how I make out...

Eat her, no. But I need practice processing and going through the motions would help me and also maybe lead me to a cause of death.

There are wonderful videos on YouTube on butchering chickens. That's how I learned. It will take 3 days for the rigor to pass. Once she is moveable again, then watch the videos. Find a huge pot. Bring it to just about boiling (180 degrees). Dunk her in the hot water for about 30 seconds. (Per side if she is a big girl) Feather pull out easier after such a dunking. Then ask Ray to do the rest. That's how I do things. LOL But he learned how to do it from Youtube videos. Oh, and I always have him remove the head, cuz that way I don't see it as "my bird", it's just a dead body that needs to be processed for the freezer. (If I know it is Ollie or Henry I cry. But without the head it is just a body)

After doing this hatch along for new years there dony seem too much you can do. Main things are let sit for 12ish hours big end up. Check for detached air cells or cracked eggs. Then continue on as normal unless you see somthing wrong with egg. Then its a case by case thing but lots of info on this site.

I'm driving like 4 hours round trip tomorrow so my sons eggs wont have to be shipped.

Also some breeds tend to do better shiped than some. It also depends on packaging and postal handling and temp they are exposed to.
