NY chicken lover!!!!

Oops, missed that part. I do trust most of the list because I have seen many of those names over and over again on other lists. That list was just the best presentation for copy and paste. I always do my own research before I buy, and suggest that others do the same. IF the company has signed the "safe seed pledge" they are pledging that their seeds are non-GMO. Look for it on their web site before ordering.
the important thing to remember is, if a company buys from or uses Seminis as a supplier they are SUPPORTING Monsanto. As Monsanto owns them. It just isn't as simple as non GMO. It also needs to be about not supporting ANY company that supports Monsanto's bottom line.
I'll stick to buying from paranoid Farmer Rik.

Oh, I wanna come visit. Really. Are you coming to the picnic? Would love to meet you. If I wasn't sick (chronic leukemia) so I am so tired some days, tying my shoes is more than I can do, I would LOVE to do exactly what you plan to do.
I've given my Black Currant jelly to a friend of mine that has cancer, ever since I heard it's high in antioxidents. I was told this by a woman the farmers market. Just thought you might find it of interest.

I do hope you have an up day and can make the picnic.

This is even more so why we have to preserve the heritage lines and protect them.

As for third world countries, my opinion is they've got the same two hands I do. The trouble is government intervention and control. Something we see happening in this country. If we do not stop the ball that is rolling we all will be run over by it.
.

Start saving your own seeds from year to year. Protect the genetics of the heritage breeds or soon we won't have any food at all. One super pest or super plant disease will wipe out our ability to produce food.

And that ball? IMO, it's so darn close it is pulling my socks down as I try to keep ahead of it.

I don't trust wikipedia. I have seen so much wrong info on there. At least wrong in my experience. So I guess we all have our areas of trust and distrust.

I wonder what wiki has to say about Non-GMO seed suppliers?

Perhaps not, but if they can find a way to do it they will.

Apple trees are now being own and licensed. Cornell just came out with two new ones. One apple cost $1 at the Regional farmers market. You can not grow or sell the fruit without paying. If there is no expiration date to their patent they will own them forever.

Rest assured if Monsanto came out with a GMO apple that crossed pollinated with your trees whether you liked it or not, they would own all the apples trees in the country. What's more, apple trees are created by splicing. They will prevent you from splicing onto your own root stock.

This is even more so why we have to preserve the heritage lines and protect them.

Just some things to think about.

I agree with the 3rd world idea. A while ago the news portrayed a woman from Somalia who was starving with 19 children. Ummm, how does one get 19 children and where is the father? I mean, come on, is she getting child support?
Oh big brother! Like I said, until they bust into the apple pie to test the apples and request my receipt for purchase of ingredients, I can probably get away with growing my own apples, making the pie, and selling to locals....

Sure you can. Sincerely. Just don't let the Health Department know you are baking in your own kitchen. Cuz they will have a LOT to say about that. And the Zoning board where you live. And the neighbors, if you are selling from your house.

I think I am hoping for a total collapse of society, so we can start over and DO IT RIGHT this time.

So ... how's this for germa-phobe horror story ....

About 20 feet along the back door of my old barn the horses stand and churn up the ground until they have a patch a pig would love - about 3 feet deep of sucking, poop created muddy mess.

Coming out to do something in the paddock - walking with momentum pushing me forward and my hands full of something - the mud sucked hold of my boot and my foot came out ... it was either loose my balance and face plant in horse poo or keep my step and come down bare foot (after all, I never have time for socks and it wouldn't have made this better) in the goo.

So I finished my chore with one boot one and bare foot slopping around in horse-poo mud ... then pulled up my boot and headed to the shower.

Frankly - I hear of more chickens dying in places that coddle them - they NEED to be exposed to the dirt and some stress for their bodies to grow strong. Human immune systems that are not exposed to pet hair, dirt and other "icky" stuff suffer and most likely develop asthma. I know it sounds a little preachy -but really - if you are too clean and fussy ... you are fighting a loosing battle, wasting your time and still not being as healthy as you are striving for.

And it feels good to have your hands in good dirt - it really does. I also like to run my hands along the leaves of my fruit trees - like petting them.
