NY chicken lover!!!!

Morning all. Sunny but cold here. The terrorists are staying inside but basking in the sun that is coming in the front window screen. Bulb blew last night in the cookie tin water heater and dh had a heck of a time unfreezing the waterer. Silkies came out to play. Have to go out later and add new litter to their runs. Glad I bagged extra this year. Love the freebies nature provides/

Tab--lots of that going around. Lots of people at my job are sick with it. So far I have been lucky (or have a better immune system cause I work at the pharm and am exposed to sick people all day!). Feel better.

Got the newest Mother Earth magazine. They had an article on heritage breed chickens. Too bad they got the drawing of the barred rock rooster wrong. They drew it with the same barring as the hen. Wasnt a bad article but could have been better.

Okay--time to be domesticated. The Lord may have rested on the seventh day but a mothers job is never done. I can rest when I'm dead.

Have a good day.

hey tab!! Glad your getting better hope your girls don't catch it as bad. Teething what fun that is. Thanks for starting a thread we are all excited.

Well between putting less scratch in my food mixture and putting burlap over one side of my coop so it's no longer a wind tunnel. I now have more chickens laying. Then again I wouldn't want to lay eggs with the 30 mph winds we always have up here. I think I'm going to try and find something that will messure the wind speed and not a wind flag unless they have one that will do up to like 50mph. I always wonder how fast it's going up here on top of this hill.

I just went through 450 posts!

I think Nora is working on teeth. She is chewing her hands and drooling a ton. At the beginning of the week she didn't want to settle down to sleep at night. My coworker and her kids were sick and I picked up overtime Monday and Wednesday. I ended up sick Thursday and left work on Friday. I had the chills, hurt all over, cough, and fever. I felt better yesterday but still wasn't moving fast. I still have an aching back, but at least I don't feel like I was hit by a truck any more. My older two had mild fevers yesterday. I hope they don't get as sick as I did.

LuvMyChicks-- I think my DH and I were at Morrisville when you were.

I plan on starting a thread for the picnic today. I see that everyone is getting excited. It's only a few short months away!

Hi Tab I'm new. Would like to attend your picnic if the dates work out. Our farm is in Rome too! We haven't moved there yet, hoping to this year, still crunching number. Love the name Nora! Was it chosen for the strong, independent character from A Doll's House? Excellent novel! Sisters are doin' it.

Sorry but in 50 years I don't think there will be any gmo free plant food. It's why I don't see how they can win law suits if cross pollination will over ride non gmo plants. A bee bird any animal moves some gmo item and it sets your whole crop wrong with gmo's. I can see a lawsuit of polluting being won but needs a lot of money to support it. Even though it is easly proven within 1 year have a gmo free green house with a gmo green house next to it with only a 2x2ft tunnel connecting the two no entrance for people and have a bee hive in the gmo side. Test non gmo side and see how it pans out. I guess that would be easy common sense talking and not court house sense....

Monsanto is winning suits against small farmers. Yesterday. Today. Tomorrow. They have a patent on their GMO Seeds and enforce it. It doesn't matter to the courts how it got to be GMO, if you own it, you have to pay. And NO, it doens't make sense. Monsanto should have to prove that the farmer intentionally allowed cross pollination of his crop and is seeking to defraud Monsanto out of money by doing so. (And my Monsanto, I mean any big business that is sueing for patent voilations on their seeds) It is my opinion, that the big seed companies are trying to corner the market on seeds and in doing so rule the world. Cuz without seeds you have no food. And people panic when there is no food.

Finally got the computer back. Never heard of A Doll's House. I'll have to look it up. Where in Rome is your farm if you don't mind me asking? Where are you moving from? Nora was an old fashioned name we liked and agreed upon within a week of her delivery. She fits right in with her sisters Fiona and Hannah.

I can't think of anything to bring to the picnic, food wise. Any ideas of what you want to eat, folks?

And who is going to nag Stony to come this year? I did last year and it didn't work. NEeext!!!
