A Jumbo egg is only 2.5 oz. This egg is weighed as OMG!

What's more it's been very cold.

FYI, I switched my Orp/CR coop that wasn't laying over to Purina and got an egg today. I haven't gotten an egg from that coop in months. It will be curious to see if there will be anymore. I will keep them strictly on Purina and see what happens. Purina is $3 more a bag though.

Now you are just plain cruel. I started some tomatoes last night. I know, I know, it's way to early, but I have to think spring or cut my wrists. I'm going with the former.

I was thinking of creating some sort of raised bed garden along the back of our house where it all became mud this winter. If I wanted to do this, do I need to start planting seeds now? I would really like to try to grow some lettuces, squash and zucchini, green and red peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes. Watermelons and pumpkins would be cool too.

(If someone already replied, Ignore my post...still catching up after working all day.)

You only need to start tomato and peppers indoors. The rest of your plans can be direct seeded into the garden when the soil warms. (Usually Memorial Day in my area) If you want to get a larger harvest on the watermelons and pumpkins you can start them indoors, in peat pots because their roots are very fragile, about 3 weeks before planting time in your area. Tomatoes and Peppers need to be started 8 - 10 weeks before growing season in your area....so you have lots of time. There are still 19 weeks til Memorial Day. (sorry, didn't mean to bring y'all down with the count down til garden season)

The lettuce can be started in the garden earlier than the other crops. So can peas. They like the cool weather.

I am with you, tomatoes are pretty forgiving though, you can bury the stems deep and even to the side and will just make the plants stronger. I am going to start some stuff soon just need soil :)

Thanks! I'm actually re-thinking my original plan of placing this along the black of my house - I have to watch it and see how much sunlight it gets there and for how long. I do know we had the kiddie pool set up there last year and all I remember is my daughter being in it and I kept backing my chair up away from it to be in the sun. LOL So I'm thinking maybe some other type of plant will do better there, one that requires half shade/half sun. The garden will have to go elsewhere.
