NY chicken lover!!!!

I raised 2 turkeys this year and didn't have a problem with black head. Now that's not saying I wont next year. Quite a few people up here in NY have the raised together some share coops some don't. Everyone I've talked to on here and local hasn't had a problem of black head. Now someone could have had it but not reported it or known what it was. If I remember right someone told me to call my local AG department and see if any black head around.

Well after threating to sue the caller telling my my computer is sending out a virus call to windows help center I just told them I don't have a computer. Lets see if that works any better. Gets old telling them to stop calling and they say listen listen listen as I'm telling them off and not to call no more.
Thanks yes I was told by the AG lady blackhead is everywhere and often not reported or the people don't realize that is what caused the fatality.. and to just keep the chickens and turkeys separate and don't track chicken poop into the turkeys etc. makes sense! I'm starting out on next to nothing so I just don't want to lose my investment in my future babies to disease, shoot, I can be bio aware :) I have a spot of land to put the turkey coop in the middle then rotate 4 outside yards around the coop to keep the ground freshened. That should do fine I'm hoping. Maybe I read too much? I had read about all the things that turkey can get >.< and kinda panicked.. but I see that husbandry and giving them enough room and care will offset that.

I had someone call me too ans say my computer needed some help!!! LIARS>>> its a scam. The lady would not hang up either and I ended up releasing the Kraken on her.

Yeah I saw him in another box. He is so active today. I feel like my coop went from being supper boring to totally exciting overnight. All my chickens have been wanting to do is roost and sleep in between eating. This is my first year with a rooster and hatching eggs. We lost our roo last year before everyone started getting active again. I'm so excited!!
Thats great!! I had a rooster when I was younger that would set the eggs in the nest box with the hen... nice little family :)

Well I feel stupid today. I decided that I would start to make a saddle for the chickens. I have been thinking about making them to sell as well as some chicken clothes. No I don't put clothes on my chickens, but there are others that do. Well anyway I was out with my pattern fitting it on one of my girls. She was doing good like she always does. Then all of the sudden she started to freak out. I should have put her down I was almost done, but instead I held on to her. Well stupid me didn't have any gloves on and she made a big gash in the palm of my hand. Man it hurts. I came in and cleaned it really good and put some antibiotic cream on it...Then I finished the saddle! I also got 3 pairs of pants for my son done to. I have more to do, but the Carpal Tunnel is really acting up now. So had to stop for now.

Not bad for a first attempt. I have already changed a few things to make it better. If anyone is interested let me know! I have different fabric. I was working on one with a chicken print when I had to stop. I

Quote: I've had turkeys in with my chickens without any issues. I was told that NY state is pretty free of blackhead, so I wouldn't worry. I know several people that have both as well. And if for some reaosn your turkeys do get it, its treatable with an antibiotic.

If it's just a minor crack, take a white unscented candle and gently rub it over the crack a few times. Put it back and it might be fine. I discovered one egg under a broody had a crack and did this. She had two eggs and hatched them both.

I wish you well,

Rancher

Oh thank you for the future ... I'll remember this.

That's cool! I never even herd of a rooster doing that :) do you think that's one of his favorite hens? Or would just do that to anyone.

Xovan Congrats! Such a cutie pie! Nice baby!

Jlaw My fiancée is a computer expert, so he knows what to look for. We had scammers call my phone and tell me that my computer had a problem. They sounded real, like Windows Corporation, so I asked them where they are located and the guy with a thick accent says, "California". I said, "Oh really, where in CA?" He says, "Los Angeles" so I ask him what time it is over there and he's off by an hour ( One of my corporations is based out of CA so I'm always aware of their time schedule), and I knew then that he was a scammer. I told him I can't turn on my computer but have someone coming over later who can so I set up a time for him to call back. When he did he got my fiancée who asked him the name of his company. He then asked him if his company has anything to do with the company Microsoft and the guy with the accent said no. So my fiancée told him that he's a computer expert and that he knows this guys a scammer and to not call back. It sounds like the same scammer. My fiancée said if you follow the directions, the scammer will be able to see into your system and download it, whatever accounts you may have online, the whole thing. You are smart to tell the guy your computers broke.

I don't know she could be his favorite! I remember looking for my roo and couldn't find him then I saw him when I was peeking in the nestbox later.. I had no idea he would do that either.

So I get a call and I pick up and say, "What!, silence, then after a bit I say "Hello?", and the guy says hello this is yada yada bank calling for DD. I say "OMG! The weather is horrible you mean they didn't send you home?" He goes, "I wish but is DD there?" I say " oh no she's not here, but ................

So when you get these stupid calls, just engage them in some conversation not related to their sales pitch and keep them on the line. It doesn't have to be true just tie them up in knots with minutia. Just don't let them talk.

They have a script to follow and when you interrupt that script, they get confused. It's lots of fun.
