NY chicken lover!!!!

Quote: 50 years ago...ahem....we didn't know a storm was coming until it got here!!!! I remember 1966...businesses closed for 4 days. the snow was up to the top of the 1st floor windows...snow banks were 20 feet high, this is nothing!

Morning all. Snow is coming down pretty good. Terrorists refuse to come outside. It was actually quite comfortable in their coop, with the snow on the roof giving it an insulating effect. The black tub is working out just fine for water and the cookie tin heater keeps it from freezing over. If we get the heavy winds later I will have to put the small waterer in Little mans coop as they will go back inside if its really blowing.

I think part of the whole snow panic is that winters have been easy the last few years. When I was growing up on the tug hill plateau, winters were very snowy and cold but life went on. My father used to make my brother and I go out and shovel the driveway before he went to work and sometimes there was two feet of snow in it from the night before. Had to do that before going to school. Schools never closed unless we were in blizzard conditions, We read books and played games is the power went out. I understand about meds but I get people coming in with scripts that were written months ago who suddenly need them filled today because we are getting a storm tomorrow. Or they took their last pill 4 days ago and could I please call their doctor for a refill because they really need it, they cant be without it. No one wants to be proactive or take responsability for their own wellbeing, etc. Thats what kills me. Okay..I will stop now.

Might do some baking and bread making today since I am off. Working on the sweater as well. Got the left side done and now working on the right. I do like how its coming out.

Stay warm everyone.

Lord have mercy I get that. Me? I skip pills so sometimes the script ended and I didn't refill it so it's expired. Which reminds me I have to go take mine now. Usually a commercial comes on and I go, "oh I've got to take my drugs". Last time I had to call the doc and get a new script. I don't mean to be a pain, I just am when it comes to taking my meds. Personally I think some could be taken every other day and save money.

Luv - I know - I like technology - but something like that really needs a face to face or a call so you can "share" not just talk at with this type of news. it is not just you! There is a loss of bonding and understanding when everything is so removed.

Did you all also realize that Ebay owns Paypal and a few years ago they changed it so you can't accept checks and such - you HAVE to use paypal .... which means ebay takes a cut of the profit and paypal takes a cut of the payment .....

That is why I try to do as much as I can on craigslist ....

I did not know that and no one has mentioned it. I just paid for my eggs to someone and I could have sent them a check. Do they pay a % if I pay them with PP? Cuz I just ordered ducklings with Lynzii and offered to pay her with PP. Should I send her a chick er check? There is plenty of time to do so as they're not coming until the 26th. Blue Swedish.

So I readjusted my incu down a notch and it's at 100.2. So I feel better about that. Will need to tweak the humidity a bit. Hope to set eggs today sometime. Anyone got New Hampsire's. I need the largest rooster I can get. I plan to cross him to my Dels to get sex linked pullets.

Luv, I didn't offer any advice on the news, but will say this. The internet has not really brought people together, cuz while we talk here we really don't get to know each other very well. We don't become, bosom buddies.

When dealing with people I know - I ask them to mail me a check .... for strangers at least paypal is a safe middleman. You can also still do the old money order :) Don't send chicks - market value fluctuates too much and you may be owed some change.

The person who received your payment doesn't receive all your money via paypal ! Paypal takes their small cut ... if you sent me $50 I would only get $48.75 or something like that .... Then if it was sold on ebay - the seller would also have to have shared a cut of the selling price. Total ROBBERY of the seller.

For buyers - it doesn't matter - except that buying keeps that racket of a business going.

I can understand the fee charged. After all they have to keep records and are a part of the transaction. BUT if the seller is willing to take a check and wait for their money that works for me too. I have a reputation here and hope it's a good one. I'd hate to be thought of as an ________.

Seems to me since there is time to mail and cash a check, the buyer might as well save the fee and accept a check. My eggs won't be sent til next month. (my choice due to the weather).
There are two weeks before the ducklings come so plenty of time to cash a check or money order. Then I pay the cost of the money order.

It would be a sad kettle of fish if you saw me at the picnic and had to deal with me screwing you over. Not something I can live with.

If you choose to send money to a family member or friend it doesn't charge a fee. It's when you are paying for goods or services that it does. Because now you are selling items as if you are business and you need to pay someone to transfer your funds between accounts. Just like small businesses don't usually take credit cards for purchases under $10, because if it's under a certain amount they have to pay a fee.

I just paid $40 twice to two people for rabbits and they got the full $40. They told me to click on "friends and family". And there was no fee charged.

That does work saying its a gift, etc. But, I've had this happen, they don't guarantee anything so if you are unhappy with your purchase, its your loss. Also, you can't "refund" anything if you pay that way.

If you sign up to accept paypal as a credit card middle man, that is an option as well. Then, people don't need to belong to paypal and still pay you. Its very nice, and you only pay when you actually use it. No monthly fees. You do need an up to day cell phone though. You need to say your are a business, but thats all.

Well this is a deal I have going on with Ebay right now and I used pay pal.

I bought a set of books as a gift for my DIL. I wanted them sent directly to her as she's in FL. Well that got screwed up and the books, or so I thought came here.

Without opening the box, I relabeled them and sent them on to FL. Turned out they were not the set I'd paid for but a box of 50 Golden books.

I have contacted Ebay and the seller (or so I thought) and have heard nothing. That was a couple of weeks ago. What can I do?

I don't use mine for shopping online, I just like the ease of paying someone rather than to ask for their trust to send them a check, or going out of your way to get a money order. The less work I have to do the better. Plus if I'm paying a person up front on something I want (like the two rabbits I purchased a couple of weekends ago) that's just more reason to give them that I am serious about getting them. Rather than getting stuck with someone from CL who may not even show up to meet you.

I would contact Ebay again till you get a hold of someone. I have had wrong stuff shipped and ebay was great about getting it resolved.
