NY chicken lover!!!!

Feather Sexing - I dont know if my breeds can be ..Dont know for sure if I am right ...lets say it is a educated guess
But what I read says this
How to Sex Chicks on Days 1 – 3 After Hatching

To tell the difference between and cockerel and a pullet, you’ll need to look at the chick’s wing feathers. This is done on Days 1, 2 or 3 after hatching. There are two different sets of wing feathers on each chick: the “Primary” wing feathers and the “Covert” wing feathers. When you hold the chick in one hand and use the other hand to spread the wing out, you’ll be able to see the feathers. Cockerel wing feathers are all the same length. Pullet wing feathers are two different lengths.
Wing feathers all the same length = Male
Wing feathers two different lengths = Female
It’s that easy. On some cockerels the wing feathers are slightly different lengths. You may look at it and note that they are not exactly the same, perhaps 1/8″ or 1/16″ off, and you may wonder if that one is a pullet. No, it is not. The pullet feathers are dramatically different in length. There is 1/4″ or more difference.
Glad you all got there safe ...

There are differing opinions on this, but all sexing methods may not be 100% accurate. Too I think it takes skill to sex chicks. Especially looking up their butts. Which I'd like to learn to do. I also think if someone were to teach a class they'd make big bucks.

I need some advice on clipping/not clipping a beak. I was thinking of trimming the beak right at the bend, but I am unsure. And what tool to use in this situation. Any advice is much appreciated.

I think you could use a pair of regular nail clippers to trim her beak or a set of dog toe nail clippers. I've no experience with cross beaks. Only what I've heard here on BYC. You might want to buy a the dog toe nail clipper cuz I think she'll need it again.

Forgot to ask. Anyone have experience ordering shoes off Ebay? Any trouble with size or returning things?

I just ordered something and while okay it was the wrong color. Not the color posted.

Morning all. Chatty bunch and Im running off to a 10 hour shift.

Tab--Nora is a gem. Your rooster looks crockpot size. Needs some potatos and carrots though.

Rancher---on a role again I see.

Lynzi--good luck with your eggs. I hope you have a good hatch given all the problems you have had. What color by the way.

Okay, time to scoot. My driveway and road are one sheet of ice and the pathways of doom were no fun this morning either. Hopefully this crap melts off entirely soon. Of course, its supposed to get cold and snowy again come monday. Should have eaten that groundhog.

Ta for now.

Pharm - he has a flock of Blacks, Splash and White that he houses together. So I could end up with some wild cards. Black over a Splash could give me some blues tho. So we'll see. He said he has gotten splash offspring from them so maybe I'll get lucky if he does have splash Roos and hens.
