NY chicken lover!!!!

OMG you don't either! LOL I was afraid to admit to that! My kids have been asking to go out but I have to tell them no because I don't have any rain boots at the moment that they can use to go out there!
Oh, we have mud boots and all...we call them poop kickers, lol. But my kids...I'm telling you, if I let them outside, they'd be covered head to toe in mud.

Now...I don't mind if they play in the mud in the summer...I'll let them go out in a rainstorm and stomp away, roll in the puddles, whatever.

But now? It's not quite warm enough to get covered in mud, lol. Plus...mud play is done with bathing suits on, and I don't care if those get dirty and stained. Can't wear bathing suits in March in NY.

This is the hardest part of winter for our family...it's warm enough to want to play outside, but the yard is too saturated to let them out there.

Yup, same here.

As much I want I want them OUT of the house in some fresh air I just see them running out there (especially my daughter who is a complete klutz!) and slipping and falling the minute she hits the yard. I've almost fallen a few time going out to the let the ducks and chickens out.

today I was out there trying to the move the water so I can get to the drains and unclog them. Finally did it. Removed all the ice chunks that were in there along with the dirt and rocks that have fallen thru, ugh it was a nightmare!

It's a mud hole here too. We still have so much snow, but what is melted is all mud. I was with my DD in the run and she pointed "a cute little waterfall" flowing down the step into the chicken yard. It is just so wet everywhere. The ducks loved it though. They really didn't want to go back into the run at dinner time. They were out almost all day.

I finished my new brooders. After their nightly baths, the chicks went into their new brooder and the ducks went into theirs. Major separation anxiety. The brooders are made of clear tubs and are right next to each other so they are looking at each other through the walls. At least now the chicks aren't going to get run over or covered with food. I have to wipe them off every night, If not they wee covered in wet food.

LOL, mine would be crawling on the ground, hiding under the picnic table, digging in the mud, etc. Before I can let them loose out there, I need to find all of the cat crap (stupid cats), the dog crap (because apparently, both dogs forgot that they're only supposed to poop in our lower field), and whatever other unsavory things might be lurking in our yard.

My ducks were way out by the rabbit hutches this evening when I went out there to lock. They weren't happy but I wasn't trudging thru mud in the dark, sorry duckers!

Meant to add, tomorrow is lockdown and I'm not even candling before hand because those eggs have jiggling wiggling and moving around since Saturday!!! Anyone ever have a pip ON lockdown day? One of my eggs is moving around so much as if it's dying to get out!

Newbies should be arriving tomorrow. Hoping the storm doesn't interfere too much with me picking them up tomorrow morning.

Darcy and I puddle hop. You're only young once and when you puddle hop with Grampa, no one can say anything.

Besides when they come in you just stick them in the shower.

yes and if they're silkies they might hatch on day 20. I've had that happen many times.

This last time temps were lower than I usually run things, so they all hatched later than norm. I wish you well.

Even if they are silkies.

If my ducks were old enough they'd be having a ball, what with all the wet. The chickens in one run have dug themselves a little pool area. Why they do it I don't know. They have plenty of water.
