NY chicken lover!!!!

Ill
There are a lot of breeders out there for silkies, shouldn't be too hard to find someone who will ship chicks or hatching eggs. Are you on any of the groups on FB? There are quite a bit...Original Poultry Bid, Silkies For Sale in the US, New England Poultry & Egg Swap and Sell. That's where I found these birds. A lot of breeders ship too, weather permitting of course.
ill have to look. I haven't plugged into FB pages. How do u find them on BYC ? Like how do I know what to look for on FB for other breeds ( besides what you just told me) Does that make sense? Lol... Ill look now. I gave FB up for lent but if I don't do it ill completely forget by Easter. Thanks!

I haven't really had any luck with finding people on BYC. And because the FB pages do so much better than BYC, CL, etc I think a lot of the breeders just stick to posting on FB. I really don't know too many who breed white, I've never looked for that color personally, but I can give you the names of people I've contacted in the past to see if they have white...

You can, I would dry them off after. I let mine swim around yesterday in some warm water, they were loving it! I let them stay in there until the water starts getting cooler so they don't get cold. Once it's no longer warm I take them out. Took a blow dryer to them after, they were LOVIN that! Just laid there with eyes closed and let the heat hit them. LOL

Well I did it. If feistiness is any indicator there are three drakes and two hens. I have duck magazine that shows how to sex them butt I tried it with one and it was not good. All I saw was poop.

I was to afraid of getting an eye full so I didn't try the others.

I hoped they enjoyed it cuz I sure didn't. Too much work.

They are growing pretty fast though.

Everyone arrived safe and sound!! Here they are...

You do know you're not supposed to put up pictures of "inappropriate" material. Right. I will have to flag future posts with this type of stuff in it!

Duckings should not swim until they are feathered out if they are not raised by the mother. They will get cold like chicks cause they don't have the repelling oil on feathers. I wouldn't take the chance.

Too late. Lyzii said it was okay. I dried them off and used the blow drier. They have two heat lights over them so I hope they're okay. I won't do it again though. Too much work.

Sure! Blame me! Lol I always let my ducklings swim, but I never let them stay in too long, always make sure the water is warm not cold and always dry them off thoroughly after and get them right back under the heat lamp. ;-)

I like this dude ! He has got Attitude ! It sounds like you got nice new blood .
Is this bunch all related to each other ? But not related to the 1st ones you Got ?

Regarding the Post Offiice Timing .
The truck may have been late .
Your package could have been in the front of the truck & they hadnt got to it yet .
They are at the mercy of the public.. they never know how much they will get in a day . They could have got a lot extra
There could have been someone out sick ...& it took them longer to sort what they had
It sounds like they were still sorting when you called them

Doesnt PHARMCHICK have white Silkies ? I know she is bringing some to the Picnic .

and DW would have a fit if she knew I put them in the tub. I carried them in clothes basket and of course had to wash that too. I have five remember.

Man is the weather crappy. DW says they won't let them leave early. DD who works for an insurance company did get out early. Our road looks bad.

I've been reading on another site about using sand in the coop instead of shavings. I may give that a try. Course it will take a lot of sand to cover the floor. Plus I may figure out how to install a drop board.

Don't know what to do about duckies though.

I don't expect to hatch anymore chicks this year. I've posted to CL but no takers for the Dels. I don't really need anymore hens. I'm getting plenty of eggs for sure.

I always do too, haven't lost one yet, I usually let them swim for about 5-10 minutes every day from 5 days or so, dry them off with a towel and lower the heat lamp a bit till they are dry, they love splishing around and chasing frozen peas :)
