NY chicken lover!!!!

Anyone have an easy way to tell if 2 week old EE's are going to lay eggs or crow? I'll post a couple pic soon. By my expert calculations, I have 4 crowers and only 1 egg layer. I've raised a lot of EE's and DH and I are pretty good at sexing them but I'm hoping that we are wrong.

My bunch are not being nice to each other. Many are sporting dark peck marks on their combs, and they have pecked the partridge rock bald. She is looking tufty all over, and they go after her lots. I took her out for a couple of days R and R and good food, but she wanted to go back. Tonight I went to close them up and the roosters comb is bleeding quite a stream. I can tend to his wounds ok, but what is making them be so miserable? Oh, there are lots with bare butts, too. The first one plucked was Earl, then it was the two BO, now three more at least.

The weather? Overcrowding? Boredom? Do you have the ability to hand a head of cabbage up for them to peck at, instead of each other? Cabbage is still cheap this week at the market.

As for eggs, my girls have been laying pretty good all winter. I was getting 6-7 eggs all winter, but they are all back laying. I got 9 for 9 today. Oh and my little D'uccle's comb is getting redder then ever so I'm hoping that she'll start laying soon. All my girls except her and the new frizzle are laying.

In other news,  how are everyone's girls laying?   I've got to consider cutting back some hens and I'm torn.  I'm just getting too/to/two many eggs these days.  How do I decided.  I will be posting to CL.  Plus I'll be going out of state so the less I have the less DW has to take care of.

Mine have been laying pretty well here, 11 eggs today from 16 hens. Even got an egg from my EE this week! She hasn't laid since August, but one egg hasn't removed her from the cull list. 7 month hiatus is unacceptable, she just turned 2.

6 ehpggs today out of 8. That's the most eggs I have ever gotten. Now if the 2 BCMs would lay. Sophie laid a couple eggs a month ago then stopped again. She and Lucy have red combs. No idea why they are not laying regularly..........

My girls are giving me 12 - 15 eggs a day out of 18. If it is cloudy then I get about 8. All winter the egg count was very low. The first year I didn't notice a decrease in eggs but like me as they get older daily production slows down.
There are only 2 chicks but several pics of each. Any thoughts as to what they are? (I know they are EE's)

Rancher, was it because citrus is bad or that they aren't supposed to like it? Look what they did to the oranges in the shipping box. I think they liked it !

I have no idea, it's just something I remember reading. It's just another one of those things that aren't right I guess. Just like cabbage, yet folks have been giving it to them and they're fine.
