NY chicken lover!!!!

The secret is peas.

Frozen peas run under hot water to thaw them out a bit. It's like crack for ducks. After they get a taste they will just about climb your legs to get them, even if you are the scary human. Little bits of bread work, too.
I'll give it a try, thanks.

We do have a gardening thread on BYC too if you have not joined.

Keep in mind folks I trade chickens for whatever you have that I can use.  I could use some Horse manure. I have these BR's I'll trade for a reasonable trade.  I'd like to keep them and they are laying but I expect to increase my Columbian Rocks if I get enough chicks hatched with the eggs I'm expecting.

I have 2 years worth of horse poop in a pile, times 3 horses worth. Our field needs it, but too wet to spread then once it dries enough the hay is coming up. Going to call the neighbor farmer to see if they can take it, it's more than the Amish can shovel. Then I'll clean up the lovely rich black stuff at the bottom for our garden.

Yeah, they spread year round here too except our field is so wet. We have the Amish using it and they put corn in a part last year. Plowing with horses is slow going, so they hired someone with a tractor. The tractor got buried real good. Prefer not having huge ruts through the hay/pasture. The Amish were supposed to take our pile to spread on the field, but again working with horses is slow going... 2 years later... Want the pile gone so I can set up my round pen.

I was outside all day with my 3 littles getting the shed organized/ cleaned out after winter and the coops yard cleaned up and repairs done . It feels good lot hang laundry in the sunshine again.
