NY chicken lover!!!!

What breeds do you have in your coop?

The BR Roo, BR hen, and the rest of the ladies are Easter Eggers and they always lay blue-green.

The roo is poor quality, and it was mentioned on the BR thread that perhaps the chick is a white rock. Could be possible if the Roo is actually a mutt.

What's every human broody's nightmare? Power loss during incubation. Spent an hour and a half trying to keep my incubator warm. I've got those three eggs in lockdown today, plus another few that are in the middle of hatching.

Turned on the woodstove and plopped that incubator right in front, wrapped in towels. I managed to keep the temp right around 90. Here's hoping the Cochin and BCM eggs still hatch! Those were the three I REALLY wanted out of all of them in my bator!

Neither did I know that I would want, chickens, dogs, horses, rabbits, geese....

Although I never had anything but a dog as a child, I remember asking my mother why we didn't have a horse....

If you are a country girl, don't marry a city boy...

Hahahaha....or get a guy with bad allergies! Seems that the birds are the only pets that everyone in the house is NOT allergic too!

DH comes home this morning and of course we hear crowing. They always talk to him in the morning. He wakes me up and says, "Fredo bit me. I was petting Nugget and Fredo bit me." I asked him what did he do. He says he grabbed Fredo's beak and said, "Don't make me have to eat you!" hahahahahaha. Now they're doing the huddle thing in the one tiny end of the big box in the kitchen. They have the whole kitchen to fly around in but choose to stay in a huddle! They are such nice birds.

Fredo was acting a little shy last evening so I picked him up and pet him while I made my tea.

That is a perfect example of Fredo just protecting his woman! Its a natural instinct and will be difficult to stop.

It may be difficult to stop, but he's the height of a flashlight! LOL! DH reaches in and says, "You're not so tough now, are ya? Huh? Now look at ya...tough guy!" as Fredo hides in the box. I really do hope that he is protective of his "hot chicks", hahahaha!

Looking for two Guinea fowl if anyone has two they would like to sell! I am from Ilion NY but live currently in Cherry Valley NY.

after I asked last night I checked pics on your profile. I was going to point out the barring was off on the roo and looked like he was mixed but I didn't want to offend. The hens have better barring than your roo so think he's the mutt of the mix giving you mixed eggs.

I'm not easily offended that way, ;-)

A second one of my own flock eggs hatched and, at first, I didn't realize it was my own egg until I cleaned it out of there. I saw the chick and assumed it was an australorp from the Meyer eggs. But then I cleaned out the shell and saw the date I had written on it, and now I'm not sure what this chick is, lol! He doesn't have the white spot on top that is characteristic of the BR chicks.

I wonder what mix the rooster is?
