NY chicken lover!!!!

well, like where do they come from,, and  what are the qualities?

Very large, feather legged, dual egg/meat breed. Docile, good foragers.
Here's a pic of adults - this is from a BYC Malines thread and these birds are in Canada, owned by BYC member Shellz

So it's a very poor video but if anyone would like to take a peek and see if their any that might hatch. To me & my first time candling eggs I would say 2 are fertile

Same here. I'd say some are developing, def 2 that are not. Keeping my fingers crossed. I have 5 broody hens, one being Edie's Sister. I do not need all these chicks. Today I sold 4 EE's. It gets easier every time to part with them.

I hope everyone stays dry. Another flash flood alert, It's been raining hard since 6pm. The creek out back is roaring. Makes me nervous to hear it but can't see it.

Congrats on all the cutie patootie chicks and I'm sorry for all of you that have had losses.

Rancher, as always, your wife is in my prayers.

Hello everyone! Rainy day here so it looks like the never ending coop building is on hold. I put up a roost bar for the chicks, and there is plenty of room for them all on it, but they insist on fighting over one small area. Crazy birds!

I have been reading this thread for awhile and want to say
@Rancher you and the wife are in my prayers.

@Pyxis I hope you catch the nasty beastie!

Morning all. Rainy day here today and the girls are voicing their discontent inbetween eggs songs. Had I know mother nature was going to water everything overnight and this morning I wouldnt have watered my plants last night. Oh well. My plum tree is trying to decide whether to thrive or give up. Not sure what is going on. Might add some composted chicken stuff around it and see if it helps. Growing stuff around here (besides chickens) is always a crap shoot. My silkie chicks enjoyed their day out yesterday. Still waiting for the eggs under the broodys to hatch. The terrorists were following dh around last night while he was mowing the far lawn. They were looking for any goodies the lawnmower uncovered and kicked up.

Pyxis---get that critter yet? How are those babies I gave you doing?

Gramma--cute video. Love watching mommas with babies.

Off to work today and since its raining I dont mind. Have a good day everyone!

Thinking of you, Rancher, and of DW.

So grateful for this rain. There is not time or hose enough for how dry everything was getting.

The two broodies ignore each other in their shared apartment, but when I take them out for their break, the BR chases the SS all over the pen. I let them have their time either before the flock comes out or after the flock has gone in for the night, so the complications are minimized. DH asked how long it takes to hatch an egg. I think he is concerned about the night I will be gone to visit my cousins....but that is a bridge in the distance.

Have a nice day everyone.

Morning Everyone,
Stupid raccoon got into my garbage again. I have to find those bungee cords I was using last summer to keep the lids on. I hate waking up to trash all over my lawn. What ticks me off even more is when I have that one extra bag that won't fit in the cans and I have to leave it on the ground beside them Tuesday night and he rips open that bag! Of course the garbage man comes, collects all the garbage and leaves all the "open" trash on the ground.

Like C'mon! Really?!?

I lost that 5th sizzle chick. After it hatched I moved it out of the incu and placed it under the heat lamp in the brooder to dry out, went upstairs a couple of hours later to find it dead. So I have my 4 that are doing great so far. I brought my white silkie from May's hatch in to live with them and show them how to eat and drink and such since I haven't had the best of luck with that in the past with silkie chicks. She's not too much bigger than that but it's funny seeing them try to nestle under her as if she's their mother. I'm calling her a she, watch her end up being a roo! I got in touch with Sheri to tell her which eggs hatched from what pens she has and it looks like I have a Splash, a White or Buff, and two darks that could either be Blues or molt out a completely different color like Silver laced or birchen. So in a way I'm glad I have just the 4 because I'll be able to hold onto them until they are adults and grown out and I'll decide who to hang onto then. Although again with only 4 I'll more than likely hold onto all 4 just because of what I paid for eggs. Keeping my fingers crossed for frizzled birds!!!
