Holy Cow! At 5pm we had the biggest downpour that I've ever seen. I'm surprised my garden wasn't or hasn't been washed away. If its coming east, hang on.

I hear there are big t-storms expected for the southern tier. I'm hoping they skirt south of us, but just in case, I guess I'll go and shut up the man door of the coop, or else I'll have everything soaked in there in the a.m. I left it open because it was 78F in the coop at 7:30. Kinda uncomfortable.....

TOB
I had lots of stuff open when the rain came through ...
The bilco , all 4 car doors , the Shed doors ..
After shutting all that stuff ...Im like where are the Teens ?
finally found them hiding out in the main coop with the hens ...
It was sure humid in there !

Poor Mans Wind chime !

I picked up this scrap board at our house ...there was cement attached to it on a string ..
I asked my hubby what is this ? He had no clue ! he is the one who plays with cement here ...

Excellent, thank you! My birds currently free range during the day and I'm hoping they can keep doing that. I've got a little 8x4x4 cattle panel coop for them now (little because I have 27 birds, they won't fit in there much longer

) and they really don't go in there when the sun shines at all, they much prefer the tall weeds- so hot in the summer hopefully won't be a problem, though it's good to know I might want to incorporate a back window in my design. I'm liking warmer in the winter, also hoping that I can figure out how to do a deep litter floor that will also add some warmth.
theres alot of coyotes out your way, do you ever have problems? i've even seen feral pigs in newfield

Morning all. I cleaned out coops and played musical chickens this weekend. Found nasty crept crawlies and eggs on a bunch of them so they all got treated. Some of them are the kiddos 4H show birds. Any suggestions on non chemical solutions to the crawlies, I'd like to stay away from DE if possible. I'm also looking for tips on regrowing the feathers I plucked that we're covered in eggs. Our fair is in 6 weeks

Wood ash. When mine had creepy crawlies I dusted them every night in wood ash for 5 days then a week later. Everything was gone. I also leave a dusting pan out with wood ash and some peat miss mixed in. I was lax about refilling it for a few weeks & they ended up with mites so I will never do that again lol

Oh yeah, we've got coyotes, though according to the number of rabbits and deer in my yard they don't come around here much. I'm trying to talk my husband into a donkey just in case, also planning on having a coop full of guineas as an early warning system.

The feral pigs got eaten a few years ago, haven't heard of any sightings since then.

It does help to know what some of the possibilities are. DW is a diabetic, has had heart surgery in the past (age 42) and high blood pressure so they're monitoring lots of stuff. She did okay yesterday with her first Chemo.

BTW, what is Chemo ? What's in the drugs and what is in the Radiation? anyone?

What I do like about the Cattle panels is you can add on when time a money allow.

While the coop itself is covered with hardware cloth, the run is only covered with poultry wire. I close the coop up each night so they're safe. I do keep them in the run when I'm not home lately due to the fox attack this past week. Heavy birds don't fly but they can wander. I'm trying to decide whether to use poultry wire to fence in the mowed part of the yard, which is big.

About the internet I saw on news that FCC signed a net neutrality bill meaning that all carriers regardless of price will all be same access speed
We got the new modem from Verizon came yesterday. It looks as though it might be used as a Wireless too. My son the Computer tech is coming next month I may wait for him to come and do his thing.
