NY chicken lover!!!!

Poor Mans Wind chime !

I picked up this scrap board at our house ...there was cement attached to it on a string ..
I asked my hubby what is this ? He had no clue ! he is the one who plays with cement here ...

Very funny and cool. I like recycled stuff, even Cement Wind chimes.

Morning everyone,
Woke up to 5 pips this morning out of the 7 Orp eggs! Looks like they decided to be right on time! This is a first for me, my last few hatches were always early.

So to more serious stuff of the day.

I was watching the news of the Twin Tornadoes and it broke my heart. Folks dealing with houses being completely destroyed and here I sit worried to let my chickens out due to a Fox. What a boob I'm being over something so minor.

I'm sure they'd trade places in a heart beat. Especially the family that lost their 5 year old.

Lord have mercy,

Have a nice day folks and hug someone you love or not today,

Oh yeah, we've got coyotes, though according to the number of rabbits and deer in my yard they don't come around here much. I'm trying to talk my husband into a donkey just in case, also planning on having a coop full of guineas as an early warning system.

The feral pigs got eaten a few years ago, haven't heard of any sightings since then.

We have lots of coyotes out by me. I frequently hear them howling at night. My cats aren't allowed out after dark. For the birds I have an electric net fence which has been well worth it's weight. So far (3 years) the only bird I lost to a predator was a rogue chicken who insisted on hopping the fence daily to do her walk-about. Not sure if it was to a stray dog or coyote, but the prints in the snow were definitely canine.

Well something spooked the girls yesterday. The babies were hiding and mom was making a racket halfway across the yard, everyone else was under cover. I'm thinking hawk just because I've heard them around and the hens were keeping an eye on the sky. Everyone was accounted for thankfully!

Welcome to the newbies!

Hope everyone is doing well. Stay cool today!

Would Guineas help? My neighbor has some. His got out and took off for the trees last winter. He lost one.

Thank you for reminding me about the electric poultry fence, that would be very handy to have around. I loss in 3 years sound like pretty good odds to me. I lost my runt chick a few weeks ago to a crow. A crow!

I've never had them so I don't know for sure, but people have told me they're better than dogs for letting you know when someone or something has stepped onto your property. Personally I'd be more than happy if all they do is chow down on the ticks.

Crows, Squirrels and some Cats will take chicks. Keep them penned until they're a safe size.

Rancher, It is NOT pleasant...but time will heal. My daughter had cancer and she had radiation and drugs. And today she is cancer free.

May daughterin law had Cancer and had both her breasts removed. NOT pleasant...but now she is cancer free. Time will pass and better times are ahead.

Look forward to better times. Regards, Aria
