NY chicken lover!!!!

Ok I am dyeing to hatch here and my freeloaders are giving me just barely enough to bake with let alone hatch anyone have any hatching eggs? Don't matter what they are but would love more easter eggers, olive eggers, and orpingtons but like I said don't matter can even be mixes that's ok will just throw them in with the egg layers eventually.

Well of course I do have EE's. Fathers would be C. Rock, (might be big hens from these guys) Lavender Araucana , Frizzle or Marans. Hens are blue, blue, or mix. These are my best layers this winter.

I've got the incu up and running. Most broody hatched this year will be marans.

If you want eggs and are coming this way that would be nice. You can bring me more feed.

Though I'm not sure how I like the mash. Lots of dust and I wonder if I should make it mush with heated dog bowls.

We had a guy from NYC who owned a house in our small town. He moved out and back down to the city and came back every couple weeks to check on his dogs. Neighbors turned him in for abandoning his dogs but they said there was nothing they could do, the dogs had two fifty pound bags of dog food and a bath tub full of water (I guess it was OK for them to have dog crap throughout the house for over a year). Then the neighbors took vidios of all the rats going in and out of the house, and right to neighboring houses, this town has never had a rat problem. Pictures made it on the front page of the Oneonta Daily Star, and the guy ended up selling the house cheap to the town that LEVELED it. It was a shame, it was a nice house.

I know this was posted in the chickenstock thread but not here so this is the new updated feed list including the Blue Seal and Poulin Grain and the prices from Country Farm and Hardware.
You may want to make a link in your signature line to your store website or price list, then everyone can find it instead of repeated posting in both threads. BYC rule #7.

Some people are crazy. I once was given a tour of a house on my mail route. The previous owners let the dogs use a room in the house that had a cork floor. Boy did it stink!

Too, our next door neighbor had dogs. Maggie was a golden mix and we'd rarely see them out. Entrance onto the enclosed front porch revealed the smell. All the mail persons mentioned it. When the owner died it sold for little.

I could go on and on. Having been a mailman you see plenty.

I'm sorry but mine have close to quit laying on me too. Tuesday I got four eggs then 9 yesterday. I'm not even keeping up with my regular egg customers right now. My girls (feathered ones) are not liking this cold weather. I don't even want to move in the cold. At least my car is starting in it though. Had to replace my battery that was only a year old a few weeks ago after it didn't want to start in the subzero temps.

Hi

I am interested in some purebred marans. I am hoping to get my big incubator set up, but it won't be for another month or so.
I could buy fertile eggs and or the chicks. I normally have quite a few broody hens so am waiting on at least two willing ones,
before I even think about hatching eggs. My broodies are my back up plan. That and the temps to get warmer.
Thanks. I am probably 1/2 hr from you :)

I was just saying this. I think the cold affects them more than the snow.

It's so cold we actually like cabin fever, it's the only way to stay warm. I caught the National Grid guy checking the meter. He said it was spinning so fast they thought it was broken.

I have such a hard time hatching marans in the incu that most have to be done with broody hens. Of course they don't go broody til mid summer. EE's more than any other.

Rancher, do you have maran fertile eggs to sell ?
Not right yet, but maybe another month or so.
My plan will be to put them under broody hens. I have about 10 hens that normally set spring, summer and fall
When I set the incubator up, I will start with a backyard mix from my hens. I have to set up a breeding pen.
I have 4 different breeds I am going to work with this year.

Looks like I have a broody girl...

...It is so cold and doesn't look like it is going to warm up any time soon. I don't know if I should give her some eggs or throw her in a snow bank to cool off. I think that if it was one of my proven momma I'd think about it a little more serious, but she is a young one and not even a year old yet. I don't know if she would stick it out...but she is a little fierce one. She about took my hand off today when I reached under her to get the eggs. Glad that I had my gloves on or I think that she would have drawn blood!
