NY chicken lover!!!!

I hate this weather more ...if that is possible ...I have a cold ! I dont think it is the flu ..but it is hanging on ..
I have been sick since Mon Runny nose ...100 fever ...
I really hate going outside to the chickens when I am sick ..
Hubby lets them out... I feed them & put them back in ..before dark ...I am miserable ! Ask my Hubby !

I stayed up later than normal last night because I am trying to keep up on here and I really wanted to try the new ice cream I bought Saturday.  Peanut butter pandemonium from stewarts,  it was good!  Your DH said you had some rough hours.  I couldn't keep the schedule you have over the years.  I would've keeled over.

Tab you just get used to it after a while. Got 15 years in for state retirement so am thinking another 5 and I will just teach much cushier easier job.

I can certainly bring my 'stuff' to show people - I could possibly bring a top bar hive too. I would be happy to share my info. just bear in mind I'm not an expert! If anyone wants to help out with the session that would be great!  :)

Can't wait for thus one it is one I have debating on doing for years.

The East Syracuse, store. They're really nice there. The best. Unless of course someone else thinks their store is the best, then mine is the bestest.

Now my store is the bestest over all the TSC's.

I had thought to do it but now I'm not so sure if it will be another expense that won't pay for itself.

I get this way after losing a bird. Lord knows I've got plenty of roosters and I do have a replacement B. Marans, but hate to lose one just the same.  Winters can be so hard. He was the only one who didn't sustain frostbite. Well with the exceptions of the EE.

Such is life I guess.

Anyhow found a guy who sells honey for $5 pound. Might be worth it to no keep bees.

What I find sad is that most of us BYC's live to far from each other.  We don't need a BYC tent, we need a BYC village. :gig

Again Such is life.

I'm reading a homesteading book.  We want to be self sustaining, but not be alone too.  If we all could provide everything for ourselves we'd no need for each other.  Though solitaire is a lonely game.

Again such is life.

We get honey locally for $20 for 5# jar. Love it!! I want to have bees, just haven't convinced my hubby yet.

I always wanted to start an intentional community.

We go to CountryMax they order whatever we need (either E Syracuse or Cicero)

Well if you buy something there you get to enter their contest and part of that is a survey. I would let them know that your TSC won't order it for you but your friends in other areas of the state are able to get it. Ask why your store can't.

I suspect they're just to lazy to order it for you. Go over their heads.

I can get it too at Country Max. I contacted Nurtrena direct from their web site. CM got called and the manager was none to happy. I'm surprised he even has a job.

Are there recipes for those kind of things...flock blocks etc...I just can't pay 10bucks for a small clog of seed.

Yes - the Chickenchick has a recipe on her site. I recently made my own - used about 2lb rendered suet, cooked it low & slow until it melted. Mixed in 2 cup of bird seed & 2 cup of cracked corn. Pour into some sort of mold - I cut the top off a gallon milk jug. Leave to cool & set, cut off mold and there you have your very own flock blok. I didn't add up the expense, but the suet was about $1 - if you estimate the cost of the seed as $2 it's much, much cheaper.
Word of caution - don't leave the suet unattended on the stove - it could be disasterous!!
