NY chicken lover!!!!

Afternoon all. After the storms rolled through its nice to have coolness again. My plants are soaking up the sun and growing in leaps and bounds. As someone with a black thumb, I am reveling in my success. My no 2 daughter has inherited my mother's green thumb so it looks like I will be teaching her how to pickle and can and put up stuff. That's fine cause I know I'll get some as well and I give her chicken that I can.

Put the indoor silkie babies in a bigger cage so they are happy with more room. Hoping to get them out to the coop in a couple of weeks. They are getting their big feathers in.. no lights for the past few days. Let the monsters out to play and their moms are pitching a fit. Must work on that coop tomorrow. Eowyn is being a good mom to the babies. The other two girls are holding tight on the eggs. I expect them to hatch any day. I will have to candle again and see what's what.

I will go to any chickenstocks I can. I have a good time and will defiantly be bringing extra birds to sell since there was so much interest. I need chicken aprons. Who has some?

Ok. Gotta go finish the hat and booties I'm working on. So many babies happening at work'''

For anyone going to open chickenstocks - I want to mention one more thing ....

someone mentioned about not bringing enough for 200 and that this amount was too much to deal with - well that is faulty math. Of course we don't have to bring enough of each thing for everyone there - but when we all bring an abundance that is far more than we will consume --- then there is a smorgasbord of yummies to share and by default (if we all bring more than we will eat) there will be some left over.

If the food sharing or paying seems too much - bow out of that - and bring and only consume what you bring yourself - still enjoying the other festivities. Personally - I like to bring what I have in abundance and not pay (easier on my tight budget) .... but if we all don't bring enough - then some other solution must be presented. So I'm open to many other ways of handing it than my suggestions. And I do think we BYC'ers did not put in as much food effort as we did last one. Also - I forgot what I was going to bring to the raffle - so added some organic potato starts - 3 boxes - not nearly the offering I had planned on ....but there weren't many nicely canned or homemade things on the raffle like last year either - I only bought and dropped tickets on one thing.

Just saying - we all seemed to not have a growing excitement rolling into this one - much less chatter, much less planning - so go to one or two or all or none - if you go - get excited about it and really get into it. That's my take on the day - which I found to be really fun and am very glad I went to both last year's and this year's !

Rancher, trailers come in handy. I wish I had a truck still, the wife thought we needed a suburban. Luckily it has a hitch on it.
I've pulled my brothers trailer with about 1,500 lbs of sheetrock and crap to our county landfill up hills with a four cylinder '93 caravan no problem.
we had a van but it's a long story.

I drive by a lumber place often and they toss out pallets so I'd need something to make a quick stop and pick up the pallet. a small truck or another van would work best.

If I were buy large amounts I'd just rent the truck at HD. A Dodge Caravan has worked best for small jobs. Generally I just pull the seats out. They're easy enough to take them out. At least for two persons or a big man or woman.

Our past van hasn't had the seat in it for a long, long time.

You never know what I'll stop and pick off the curb.

In TX I was repairing a hole in my DD's garage wall. I had my SIL drive me to the house his parents are having built. I ran in and snagged a small piece of sheet rock. It was the week end so no one was there. Though I would not have had a problem asking for some.

As it was the piece I snagged was just a little bigger than what I needed.

DW bought some fabric to make some.

I'd post picture of the fabric but have no camera. Two have chickens and the third is a gold and brown with bees. Heavy weight for good protection.

A basic style like this. No pocket

My advice was to delegate.

If one person was assigned to the auction. Perhaps the reason the auction did so poorly was folks donated to the pantry instead? We only have so much discretionary money.

Another couple or two to handle the food tables. etc. etc. with a set time when food service would begin. Each couple could take turns so everyone gets to schmooze. When the food is gone it's gone. As I stated before we have hot trays so burgers can be done in large quantities. I agree charging for food is okay or free for donors of food. Stickers could be given to show who they were. The Dollar store is a great place to buy disposable dishes and pans. This way donors could leave when ever they wanted without waiting for their dishes.

Demonstrations should be scheduled to a specific time. Poster board is cheap at the Dollar store.

Another could be in charge of live animals. Organizing them in one place. Anyone selling presale should/might take paypal then payments could be made on the spot if WiFi is available and folks have a tablet.

Plants handled by another person in a one area.

Crafts could be whereever the seller can set up a tent I suppose.

We've all been to craft shows and the like to see how things are set up.

I just think better planning is key.
