NY chicken lover!!!!

Morning all! I had a pretty productive day yesterday with the girls and cleaned their coop and run top to bottom! My new chicks are out in a brooder in the coop, they are going on 3 weeks now and I have some heat for them at night. I have 2 buckeyes, a polish, lavender orp and a barnevelder. Not sure that I'll keep them all. I friend of mine ended up with a bunch of cockerels like so many of you! So, I may raise the buckeyes for her.

No word from my neighbor since the town said they can't be involved because there are no laws against having chickens. The town wrote us both a letter telling him that he must deal with me directly with any complaints. I'm so glad the animal control officer locally has 20 chickens himself and backed up everything I said!

Still no one interested in my little lavender orp roo. He is 10 weeks old and turning out to be a gorgeous guy. I've debated keeping him and breeding him with my other lavender orp, but a No Crow Rooster Collar would be involved. I've done research on it and people say it doesn't hurt them, but I just wonder how I rooster would feel not being able to let out a loud crow!

He absolutely loves his silkie mamas and I think they love him too lol! My silkies are laying and I so far have gotten an egg a day from them. They are about 5 months old.

On another note...I officially found out that I passed my nursing boards! Woohoo! I am working at a local hospital in maternity and labor and delivery!

Hope you all have a great day.
that is so awesome. Congrats on passing your boards and enjoy working with all those squeezable babies.

Thank you all! Rancher - I agree...I need to get a cake!

I need help..Would love to know what type of tree I have in the chicken run? It freaks me out every year. The chickens go nuts when the berries start falling. They gobble them up like crazy then it freaks me out when I start seeing black/dark purple poops. It happens every year and I just thought that I would try to find out what type of tree it is.

Look up elderberry varieties. Its a possibility. Not sure so don't take my word for it.

I'd say Mulberry. These berries can be used in Jelly.

MULBERRY There are different varieties.

You have to understand that using these berries takes work and so folks don't like to make there own jelly, but wine of course is easier and less work so they make wine.

Not to mention harvesting the berries. Honestly though you can make quite a bit of jelly from not to many berries so one tree is usually more than enough.

It's not mulberry. My guess is some kind of cherry. The bark doesn't look like black cherry, but the leaves and fruit are similar.

picked some plantain for natural worming ..
the whole plant seeds , leaves & roots .
put it in the food processer , strip off some of the seeds
They ate most all of it right up ...See if anything comes out
