NY chicken lover!!!!

Hello, my fellow NYers! Can anyone please give me info (links would be great) on how or where I can find the NYS laws on shipping live adult chickens out of state? I'm having a hard time finding it and a fellow BYCer in WV would like one of my boys. Thank you!!
Welcome ...

it might not be a good time to ship with the bird flu going around ...may be extra laws because of that ..
Call your post office ...dont know the # ?

There will be no more free range time for the flock until their old coop is moved over by their new one. The silly kids won't go back to the new coop without me carrying them. Is there a chance that after a week or so of being carried to the right place they might learn?

As long as they are not silkies they might learn. My TSC 'silkies' I had in a temporary coop/run this spring after they were stinking the house up and the garage was getting close to too warm during the day. I had to pick them up and put them in the coop for weeks every night before they 'got' it.
I got the giants and sussex July 2, so around middle of August? Moved 'silkies' to big coop and put the new ones in temp coop. They still won't go in the dang coop at night, pouring rain, getting cold this fall, looked like drowned dirty white mops when I get home at 10-10:30pm. Finally a couple weeks ago they started going in....they haven't the last few days

And the cockerel/rooster is the 'alpha male' right now and none of the others pick on the pullets, they all go in to lay eggs and eat, don't know what's wrong with the stupid birds? Maybe they are racist and like to stay segregated

\ Funny thing happened yesterday. I let the girls out to free range around 4pm and went out front to mow the lawn. I knew they'd be okay . Soon they all came and stared at me through the garage door wondering what the heck I was doing.
They were wondering why you werent letting them in the coop
...it was dark or near dark ...Correct ?
they wanted to go to bed ...next time just leave the coop open for them

There was The Countess on my chain link fence! I opened the coop and they all jumped up on the roost and went to bed.
chickens are very habitual ...they want to roost at night..
if they cant get in the coop to roost ...they will find a place they can ...like the fence .
it may be a problem ...but probably not ...just wait & see if it happens again ..

Thank you all so much for all your responses. I'll take a wait and see approach. Usually I don't leave them out when it starts getting dark. I had the back flood lights and all but as Gramma mentioned. They like things the way they like them. For them to run after me and look through the garage door most likely meant "hey lady, we're ready". By the time I finished the leaf blowing I think she was downright mad to have waited. I do love her though. She's so funny!

You can do
1) leave them in the coop for a a few days - week ..
2 ) Close or cover the old coop ...so they cant get in ..leave the new one open ..
Give them treats before bed in the new coop

Funny story: After work yesterday I took my soon to be 3-year-old daughter, ran to my mom's to pick up veggies (we split a CSA share), and then went to the Tully Village office to vote. We just bought our house in the village in February, and are new to this area. So, since it was my first time voting and I'm a wreck, I had no idea what district I was. So I walk up to the table, cute kid in my arms, and of course all of the elderly ladies working were more than pleased to see us, and help us figure out where we were.
When they asked me where I lived one of them jumped in and said she was just a block away from us. So I proceeded to explain which house was mine, and she said, "Oh, the little white one on the corner with chickens!" She and the other ladies sort of exchanged glances.... haha, I guess being the only (the I've seen) chicken keeper in the village has given me a reputation.
Well, that and being the crazy lady that glares and yells at all the jerks flying through the three-way-stop at our corner lot.

Cute picture. I keep adding rooster to my barn coop. It makes it tough to get to the nest boxes, but the chickens are happy.
