NY chicken lover!!!!

I would clean out the waterers real good ..

Add some apple cider vinegar to their water .
24. Clear your sinuses. Works with chickens too ...they say its best with the mother in it but you can use regular store bought too

. Clear your sinuses—and get ready to breathe easier—by sipping on a home remedy of water and ACV. Just as it helps fight sore throat-causing germs, it may also stop bacteria from growing in your sinuses. Plus, its potassium content could help thin all that lovely mucus that’s made itself at home in your nose.
you can get Amoxicillin from a vet ...or they sell it on Ebay under the name fish mox

Tge only provlem i have with using acv is that i use metal watering cans. So it will rust them. Otherwise ive used acv with plasric ones and it was good for my chickens.

Im a little worried about my 4 silkies i have . im new with silkies and i dont heat my coops. Last year we got down to -30 . so now that is is colder i go out and check them often at night. Thankfully they do roost with the other chickens on the roosting bars. Vut i have seen my one silkie rooster shiver when it was 20 out. So im wondering how they will do in winter.

Funny!

So my dominant girl, Rocket, is also the most docile with me. Is that normal? She's been my most curious and interested in me since I first got them. She's the one who does all the "talking" to me and comes to greet me at the gate when I bring meals and check for eggs. She will squat for me 99 times out of 100.

Not sure that it's 'normal', but my avatar Deirdre does the same! She's the boss of the girls but she will come and cuddle under my jacket and actually go into a trance while being petted! When I first got the Delawares they were all stand-offish - except her.

Lisa523...I have never heated my coops and we had below zero temps with windchill last year. Didn't lose oNE bird. Silkies and chickens in general can tolerate cold. It's drafts and poor ventilation that will kill them. My silkies are out the door every day no matter what. They are tough.

Howdy all. Sorry for the long absence. Been working lots. Cheeps are doing well for the most part. I did lose my silkie roo Legolas last month to an unknown cause. He was almost five. I was devastated. He was my boy. His girls miss him as well. Little big man is now the ruler of that side of the yard. Not sure yet what I'm going tok do breeding wise. My reds are well and the Duke is proving to be an exceptional rooster. Best one ever.

I hope everyone is well. I have spent 5 weeks battling severe bronchitis and still suffer from the aftermath. Is there any updates as to chickenstock or if nutty is having a gettogether? Too many pages to read through.

Silly girls. They love being outside but seriously! ! You crazy birds it's raining! ! I can't leave them cooped up all day because I feel horrible when I do , yet I'm sick of having to go clear to the small coop to gather eggs in the rain. I guess it's better than the alternative, store bought eggs.

I'm so sorry to hear about Legolas. I know how much you liked him. Glad that the Duke is being such a good boy.

Glad to have you check back in. I know that there has been little talking about Chickenstock, but I don't think that anything has 100% been decided.

Or better than gathering eggs in the snow ...this was one of those snowy / rainy days ..drowned chickens ..mine wont come out of the rain either
