Yes, and provide oyster shell separately. Their hours are 10-3 and 7-12 on Sat., so you don't make the trip when they have closed.

They only get a cup or so of BOSS around 4 pm-

Boss Has protein however ...the husks ...I dont know if they have any nutritional value .
1 cup for how many chickens ? they may need more protein ?
How do you do your ferment ? Lots of water ? do you drain it when it is served ?

I just have four chickens- it's probably closer to a cup and a half.
I'm going to pick up a bag of the higher protein grower, at least for the winter/ molt.
I keep my ferment on the dry side- the chickens seem to like it better that way. It's like lumpy oatmeal.

Too much boss for 4 chickens ...a hand full is enough ...remember it is a treat ...The food is balanced for their needs

Thank you Rancher. lol funny thing is all chicks are cute. Mine are so special to me because it is my first broody hen and first hatching of any eggs.
And now we have another hen that's gone broody... the staggering thing is it's one of my BSL's that aren't supposed to be broody. Go figure?

Well she's a female what can you expect? Come and get some eggs for her. I hope she does well.

Hi Shodak! The only reason I have ever had a hen with a bare belly is bloodiness. She may be all confused with this weather. i have had Brodie's who were younger than one year old. I have noticed that they become quite unreasonable and tend to growl and shriek more, which makes everyone give them a lot of space. I had a dedicated broody in February once. A cold February. Keep an eye on her, it does sound like increased protein will help the one who is sprouting pin feathers. JjFeeds, near me has a feed I use with 20 percent protein Kalmbach poultry starter grower. The ingredients on the label are almost identical to Purina Flock Raiser. For a bit less $.

I did not know JJ's has a starter with that protein level. How much is it. TSC has Dumor but it's $16/17 for 50#'s. When you feed it til laying starts it gets expensive.

Boy was it windy out. Got the roses covered and the hoses rolled up and put away. Still a few things. Mostly picking up junk. Stapled up plastic but the wind may undo some of it. I usually have to go around and resecure things a bit. Next year I may cut some hoses in half to about 25'. Those 100'ers are too much to roll up.

My SIL left a cooler near the garage and I thought it was full of water but no it was full of beer, soda, fruit drinks and water from their trip to Old Forge earlier this year. It was a block of ice. I saved the water and soda but I'll be dumping the beer. Why they didn't take it I don't know. There was some other stuff they left that I needed to put away. Sometimes I don't understand people. My GD's trike left in the driveway and GS's Tonka truck.

I do the same, grower for higher protein and free choice oyster shell. Sometimes I go for the cheaper layer and add free protein.

@rancher hicks I've done the long hoses, have four 50ft now, easier to drain. I should've spent the day doing the same. Spent half the day in the rain getting cockerels out of the big coop. I bet I don't hear any crowing tonight....

Ugh, man. Our house and lives have been taken over by the foster pup. Top it off, we're both having severe allergic reactions, to the point of impeding typing.
