NY chicken lover!!!!

Sad news today...two of my chicks were killed by my dogs. DH didn't notice the basement door wasn't closed all the way..he feels horrible, but it's an honest mistake. I still have two chicks left, lost a silkie and barred blue egg layer.

So sorry ...that is horrible ..Are these you bought or hatched ?

I hatched them. I did discipline my dogs right when I found out what happened. I've brooded chicks several times in my basement before and they've never shown interest. I'm going to put them out in the coop separated from older birds in a few weeks with a heating pad. I held the two remaining and let them fall asleep...poor things were so scared.

So, after I froze all my plastic waterers, and glass ones, I have gone to the rubber bowl and the rubber goat water trough.  So, my yard now has enough little ice shaped bowls to build an igloo. I am seriously disliking winter...

Hmm, never thought of doing that. I've got a two gallon one in both coops, I could build a wall to block the wind...
This winter I don't think is as bad as the last two. I'm surprised it hasn't warmed back up again yet. Last El Nino winter we had I was working outside in a t-shirt for the majority of it.

Sorry to hear you'all loosing chickens. I thought I lost a giant, didn't know how, run is enclosed, no sign of a struggle. Then I found her, silly girl that's not a roost
400

TiTi hatched 1 chick ..the other one hasnt hatched it does have some pecks on the shell.
I dont know if it died or is a late bloomer ...I still see a air cell.
I am so tempted to try to open it ...But I will wait ...maybe it isnt ready yet ..
I hear no peeping at all either ..if it was ready... I should hear peeping
I think I have a baby rooster ....it looks full cuckoo maran mix

Anyone here grow roses? Anyone here have old roses growing on there place? Got any pictures of your roses?

I'm looking for cuttings. I started my climber with cuttings from the old house and also the Jostaberries bushes were cuttings from a BYC member. There easy to send in the mail. Any color you grow is fine. If you're in Zone 5 of course. I don't think anyone here is in zone 4 or below.

I'd pay the postage of course. Paypal would make that easy.

My daughter next door has some. Tell me how and when to do the cuttings and I will send you some. She has one old fashioned one that is a pink single and grows like a bush and I know she has some climbers, red and something else. By the way, if someone has a yellow climber she has been looking for one for ages.

I once had a nice climber that grew and bloomed, but I foolishly didn't cover it in the winter and it got killed. I now wrap my roses even though they may be hardy to zone 4.

I have the David Austin Catalog and planted Princess Margaret but it's not doing as well as I had hoped. I'll fuss over it next year and see if I can't get it growing better.

Tasha Tudor said she never fussed over her roses. If they grew they grew. I've tried to have that same attitude but when you pay $70 for three rose bushes you fuss. That was for three but one died.

DW loves English roses.

I'll mention it again around cutting time.
