NY chicken lover!!!!

Does anyone here have a special name their grandkids call them? My daugther in TX told DW that the Grandson said yesterday, "you know who my favorite Grampa and Munga are? Daughter says now who? He says, Grampa and Munga. We don't know where he got the name Munga for DW but that's what he calls her. He likes to eat "french" eggs. He and I would eat breakfast together. He means fried. He also won't eat anything but real maple syrup now since I've visited. Told his mother "Don't think you're going to feed me that crap" , when she tried to give him the usual Corn Syrup being passed off as "real" maple syrup. :lau They now have to buy the real deal. :D This years Christmas painting was made with his and his sisters feet, making three mice. One year he made us a Christmas tree made with hand prints.
That's a really pretty picture, rancher. Very imaginative. I love the idea of making pictures of the kids hand and footprints. One of my kids made a thanksgiving turkey picture with his handprint once. I've never heard of kids calling their grandparents special names. That's a new one for me!

Sad news today...two of my chicks were killed by my dogs. DH didn't notice the basement door wasn't closed all the way..he feels horrible, but it's an honest mistake. I still have two chicks left, lost a silkie and barred blue egg layer.

I'm so sorry about your chicks. I'm afraid of cats, when mine are ready to go outside, since they won't be full size

I have some scraggly roses. A couple old. I don't remember names. One or two David Austin. I think one is princess Margaret also, and has never done particularly well. I have two yellow climbers. Well, one is a bit orangey. Golden showers and autumn sunset.

Thanks everyone! I guess this sort of thing happens, definitely avoidable and I reinforced their brooder.

Just asked my local TSC where they get their chicks and they use Townline and Mt Healthy hatcheries. I have no clue if those are good hatcheries or not. They can do special orders. My only experience has been with Meyer and My Pet Chicken for hatching eggs.

I know when my chicks come into my post office they are always early...like before the office opens- 6:30 am ish. Maybe you can check with your post office and see when they get in their express shipments.
I call the PO or stop in and have them call me when they come in and go pick them up in my PJ's. The same with eggs.

What shippers need to know is to get them to the PO first thing, not in the afternoon. If you ship in the afternoon whatever you ship MAY sit there overnight.

We'll see what the work sitch is when chick time comes but the shipping chicks thing doesn't work out so well here - no one ships overnight anymore, so they go to the big PO in Saratoga -they make me wait until opening. :p Plus I leave for work at 530AM so no good. I'll probably just hatch a bunch o mutt chicks again. =)
Well I'm sure you can drive to get some eggs can't you? If you order eggs from someone here in NY it shouldn't be too long that they won't hatch well.

What is it you're looking to hatch?

My favorite colors are White, Yellow and Oranges. I'm a guy so I don't go for pinks and reds.

More naked necks if possible.. and frizzles.. and on my bucket list is an emu. :) :)
A frizzle roo or hen can be crossed to any other breed and get frizzles. Though hard feathered birds don't work so well. Mainly they are a Frizzle/Cochin cross.

I don't know about NN's.

Buckwheat is a cross between Frenchy and a Cuckoo Marans. I also have a cross with Delaware.

I remember Mt. Healthy had some sort of health issue with their birds a while back.......
