NY chicken lover!!!!

Seems like our TSC uses Ideal hatchery. Frog Pond Farms I'm pretty sure goes through Mt Healthy, their chicks ducks turkeys guineas look pretty healthy and I've had some good luck with what I've bought in the past.
If they had health issues it could maybe explain Frog Ponds selection last yr. Wasn't the normal every yr I've seen. I didn't ask, the owners son is kinda taking over because he has health issues, cancer I believe. I just figured his son ordered different for some reason.

She's pretty! Of your Sussex and giants do you favor one over the other? Just trying to decide on my next breed.

To early with them to tell, just starting with them. Last July I got the chicks. Both are very calm breeds. Both color varieties are not common. I've only found two places that have red sussex. Speckled everyone has and quite a few have light. Giants grow slow and eat a lot they say, but they're my definite keepers.
I really like the sussex but at the moment I'm thinking I maybe might sell them in the spring and get some Naked Necks. Haven't decided if I want to work with three breeds yet.

Only LF - don't wanna risk the littles with my big ol roos. :) Sides, my banties always get eaten by hawks.. :(

The chicks that I have hatched have been more of a medium size. My roo is getting old, but he is a really good boy. He is a frizzled bantam cochin.

(that picture is from the day that I brought him home)

A little bit of good news...my little barred blue egg layer chick is alive! I looked all over the house because I only found one dead chick, figured maybe a dog ate the other. Well tonight I heard some loud chirping and it was her! Amazing she was able to hide behind some boxes in the basement :)

My little one came down with something suddenly. When I went to pick him up from school, I had to get him from the nurses office. When they went outside for dismissal, he threw up in the schoolyard.(a very considerate child). His teacher said he was complaining of a tummy ache shortly before. She took him in to the nurse, who checked temp, but there was no fever. It took us quite a while to get home so he was quite cold and his feet got wet in an icy puddle. He took a nap and woke up looking ok. Just after he started eating dinner, he threw up again. After a few minutes, he started eating again, and managed to keep the rest down. An hour ago he said his head was feeling hot, and when I checked, his temp was 99.9. I put a cool compress on his head and took off most of his clothes. Hopefully the temp doesn't get higher and drag on.
