NY chicken lover!!!!

I avoid TSC all together this time of year! Between gardening supplies and chicks it is a dangerous place for me...

OMG....tell me about it. Unfortunately my will power sucks. I just took a trip to The Poultry Hatchery in Clifton Springs and I went to Tractor Supply and wound up buying all the chicks that were left. I rescued them. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Don't get me started on gardening. I rescue plants all the time. If I see a spindly, yellowing tomato plants I buy them and bring them back to health. Then I eat their children (tomatoes). I think I may be a monster.

Framac, Purpletie, and Cuti,

Thanks for the info on breaking my broody and timeframes for eggs. I don't think I'll need to slip any under her, but I may just to get a couple of more youngins going. I checked this afternoon and none of the three eggs had hatched yet, but I heard some peeps from one of the eggs. My TSC has RSLs available, but I'm not sure what else they may have had come in this week.

Hi Dave,
If you have a peeping egg that's a good sign! hopefully you will have a chick tomorrow.
Are you in CNY ? What kind of chicks are you looking for?

I'm fairly set on cackle for the price I can get. We have the meat chicken house started now, all it needs is the walls finished and roof dropped on. Its 6×8 2 story with the roosts only 6 inches off the floor. Windows are simple hardware cloth with plastic roofing I can put in place for bad weather. Currently however hubby is using my meat hut for a platform for a truck bed. That will be put in place on the truck Monday though.

You are close to me so if you want to add into my cackle order to save on shipping we are doing a few orders this spring. Just let me know. Plus with the extra bodies it should make for a safer trip.
Meat hut Lol!
Might take you up on that shipping offer, definitely more the merrier. I only plan on ordering 15 naked necks. I usually order 25 chicks at a time, never had a dead chick. If we go in on a order anytime in May is good for me. We are going away for a week last week of April, so can't do any before that, that's why I figure May's good.

Christina,

I'm in Geneseo, just south of Rochester. I have BO hatching. I'm hoping to have a couple of more hens out of these three eggs. The hens I have now each lay everyday lately, and sine the weather has been getting nicer, They are hardly touching their feed at all. They have been roaming around and foraging throughout the paddock area they are in and even sneak under the fence to the pasture and yard some. If I end up buying any more layers, I'll probably just pick up whatever I can find close by. More buffs would be great, but not a necessity.

Just for comparison, these 2 are the same age, just white. It's pretty easy to see the ckl compared to the pullet.

Wanted to say hi! I don't get on here much anymore either. There always seems to be something going on for us, currently kitchen renovation.

Forgot to mention the news letter. GFF is having a sale on their Silvia chicks. $29 each.

Anyone interested in Marsh Daisies? I have the two hens and roo from last picnic, but am also hatching eggs. I'll be posting to CL too.
