NY chicken lover!!!!

I hadn't thought about it, but you are right Gramma! Does anyone just put their eggs in on their side? If so, what's the hatch rate? Kind of an up and down week here - finally got the Bredas that Phoredaburds had been saving for me - beautiful. Just have to find them a husband now... My favorite RIR 'Red Sonya' has been poorly for some time, I had to cull her on Saturday :hit . 2nd hatch started pipping - 4 out, 2 more soon ..:weee
Bredas? Is that what's in that pic? She's pretty.

please make sure the icky guy leaves a blood trail STARTING behind your fencing, and make sure your gates are locked. Ask an officer exactly how to not to get in trouble.
Gladly.

Can you put up a game cam to get proof that he is trespassing? I can't imagine that the police could do nothing if you showed up with solid proof he was on your property. And if they still do nothing, it's time to get a lawyer. Especially if he is killing your animals.

I agree with the trail cam and the gun. If one doesn't work the other dang sure will. I live in between 3 very animal friendly families that help protect my critters. The man across the street has only one condition to keeping an eye out. When we process he wants to be at the top of the customer list. I would get in a lot of trouble if someone pestered my critters.
We've got one camera up that's caught him - saving for more. I've heard of $10 trail cams but haven't been able to find them anywhere. We're also lighting the place up like a disco. Probably get him in one shot that way - slithering on the ground like a snake or otherwise.

I'm going to see what a lawyer says tomorrow. Thanks, guys.

Gladly.

any time. Creepy crawling ickies need to be cought.

Beer can, over 80g egg! Amazing, better then my bielefelders.

Gramma, the brinsea advanced has a setting that does a daily cool down to simulate a mother hen getting off the nest. It does not turn them on their side but I heard upright is better for shipped eggs.

Glad everyone is enjoying their garden. I got a few dwarf fruit trees to go in half barrels.

I have one egg pipped but it's at the wrong end. Got my fingers crossed for a better outcome this time around.

Anyone interested in a pair of white bresse for a meat project? They are from" theoldfarmhouse" and vaccinated. They have been raised on organic feed starting at 23% now at 17%. They are 19 weeks old. The cockerel has an improper comb. Only 4 points. They should produce some offspring with proper combs. If using for your own meat purpose it won't matter. I have a pullet that I'm keeping from GFF that I plan to put with a bielefelder. I will most likely be getting more bresse from GFF so I don't need this pair. $30 for the pair. If it's nice tomorrow I can take pics.

Hey guys.

Sorry for falling off the edge of the planet. I hoped that your absence didnt mean you had to get rid of your chickens

@Gramma Chick : Icarus has been rehomed to a young couple in Buffalo who wanted an EE for their hens.
Glad you could work out a solution for him & you still have your hens .
Cant believe the creep is still lurking..the police cant do anything ?
Could you put some kind of alarm system in your yard ? that blares loud sounds if disturbed ?

So the short of it.

heard banging against the window, while I was trying to sleep. Though it was heavy rain.

it was a robin banging against the window. Landing on the sill and jumping up against the window.
It is spring and the dummy... thinks that is a rival male robin ...
He is sure feeling his hormones
can you hang a sheet or towel over the offending window ?
or a picture of a hawk or owl ?

@2Fast2Curious , booby traps so you know when he enters your property. They make a alarm for driveways that is a motion sensor, sounds a alarm in your house when someone comes into your driveway. Can be setup anywhere, small inconspicuous, wireless, and he won't hear alarm. I know someone who uses one to alert him to deer in his garden, could be used for predator control also. $18 for this one; http://tinyurl.com/jd6m2zd
Or beer cans/soda cans with a few stones in them, stung to fishing line, setup throughout your yard, if you could hear it in your house. Or if you want to be cruel, boards with long nails in them, I bet you do hear the screaming in your house....
I don't think you have the right to shoot someone unless your life is in imminent danger, shooting someone for trespassing could get you a prison sentence depending on the circumstances. Even people that have shot burglars have ended up in jail.
For self protection, I wouldn't recommend a handgun unless it has a laser sight. Handguns are not easy to shoot accurately without A LOT of practice if you don't have the laser sight. And very inaccurate with their short barrels at anything not up close. Big bore hunting handguns are highly accurate even at long distance shots but kick like a mule.
Shotgun is a much better choice for home defense IMHO, and less likely someone is going to get hit with a stray bullet down the street, neighbors house, etc. 12ga kicks a lot, they do make reduced recoil shells though, 20ga kicks less and also there is reduced recoil shells available, .410 hardly kicks at all and is still very effective and the do make a few different style options defense buckshot rounds for them. I would recommend the actual shotgun in .410 but there is handguns available in .410, check out the Taurus Judge series.

The babies are 16 days now and loving the outdoors. Today is the first time out of the brooder not being in my hands. They are dust bathing and running around like crazy. I did cheat and make them an enclosure with their lamp but not one has gone in it yet.

On day 3 now of incubation and I couldn't help myself. I candled. So far if I'm right they are all doing good. Little weird looking blobs in the egg that were not there to start with. Cross your fingers for me. I'm getting nervous now, the excitement is gone way to fear of losing the entire batch.

My blue wheaten Ameraucana and BCM hatch didn't do very well. I have one BWA that has spraddle leg and one BCM zipped and stayed in the egg for over 24 hours with its beak sticking out of the shell. When I came home from work and saw it was still in the egg I pulled it out. The poor thing just lays on its side. I have hand fed and hand watered it. Now its bending its neck like it has crooked neck. I am heading to Auburn in an hour to pick up the kids from school and will stop by Tractor Supply and get some vit/electrolyte. Maybe that will help. I have it in a pantyhose sling like on this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/655937/please-help-young-chick-cant-stand-or-walk-without-help . I'm worried because I work Fri, Sat and Sunday. I'm not sure if that is too cruel to leave it for 11 hours or I should just put it down.
